Anyone riding on the weekend? I could do with getting some miles in for 10@KT and Selkirk Merida.
Plus I'm already having withdrawal symptons from Dumfries technical stuff.[:(]

I've got a ride in the Trossachs planned for Saturday - about 45km or so from Aberfoyle area, about an hour or so away from Edinburgh.
Nick, it would probably be similar mixed terrain to your Selkirk Merida - not that I'm calling your bluff or anything... but you did say you wanted to do some extra miles! [8D]

That would have been good to come along to Andy, unfortunately I cant spend to much time away on Saturday.
Dont mind if the others go, I will just go round Inners myself.[:)]

Andy - The trossachs sound good, and I really must explore new riding, but I'm going to stick to Inners this Saturday. There are still a few sections I havent managed yet.

You're right, Stu. Definitely need to get further afield.
To be fair though, we did have a Dumfries weekend last week, so somewhere "Local" this weekend would be good.

Stuart does have a valid point...
Anyone else on WhatMTB could look at the 'Riding' forum, see all the very lengthy posts by folk in Edinburgh and be forgiven for thinking that the only riding there is in the area is either Glentress or Innerleithen, and the occasional jaunt further afield to, yup, another trail centre! [:I]
Just my opinion, of course. [8D]

Fair point Andy,I guess it's the easy option organisation wise to do trail centres though, especially if you have families and other commitments. With GT or Inners I know how long I'll be away for, how much it'll cost petrol wise, and I know what I'm letting myself in for technically. I'm not skilled enough to do most of the stuff you do and until I am I'll keep practising where I know I'm able to do stuff.[:)]
Have a good one on Saturday though.[8D]
And I had noticed our threads are huuuuuge, buts thats coz we're all so lovely and friendly and sociable.[:X][^]
<center><font color="violet"><b>ME AND MY BIKE</b></font id="violet"></center>0 -
I should've add a caveat about that - did mean to, actually! [:I]
That is a fair point; I know that a few people have families to think of, too. 7stanes do have their place, but there is so, so much more out there - and with the Outdoor Access Code in our favour, too. Guess that if all you want is 'quick fix' mountain biking then trail centres are superb.
Actually, much of it isn't actually that 'technical' - it can just be harder going as there is sometimes no surfaced trail to speak of. And proper mud, too! [:D]

I'm not getting at youze by the way! Its easier for me to get away all day as no family pressures to return.
Trail centers are great, natural is great too, but can be a bit hit or miss on unfamiliar routes.
I'd love to come to Inners at the weekend, but i'm working, boo! Have a good one folks.0 -

For me, you've probably hit the nail on the head there. I need to get out regularly to maintain my fitness at my age, and constantly doing GT red is way way better than going to the gym 3 times a week!
Also I've only been doing this MTB thing for 9 months. Kirroughtree was the best day out I've had in years, and I want to do it again. SOON! You seasoned pros should remember what its like to be a noob!![;)]

You've only been riding 9 months?! You are far better than i was at 9 months. I think you should treat yourself to some new forks as a reward.0

Completely agree with Stuart and Andy, I dont really get the time though and I can assure you it really does piss me off sometimes. If I go for longer than a morning (ie whole day Pentlands, Ben Cleugh etcetc) it means I normally cant get out the following weekend as I need to spend time with my family. My work also gets in the way quite a bit (couldnt go out tonight for the Pentlands trip as was held up at work and have to work weekends a lot at very short notice) but unfortunately i need to do that to afford shiny new bits for my bike...oh yeah and the mortgage, food, cars etc[:D]
I think rides such as the Pentlands mega loop I did with MC, Streako, John and Stuart a few weeks back and the Ben Cleugh ride do much more for fitness and also advance your skills much more. I do plan to do much more riding like that over the next few months and will hopefully be able to call on people like you, MC, StuartM and Andy to "show me the ropes" as I dont have much knowledge on where the good natural trails are.
I didnt think you were getting at us/me and it is a good point, I will not improve by doing the same man made trails all the time and I do need to "broaden my horizons". Saz also makes a lot of good points aswell, its just trying to balance it all I guess[:)]
Anyway - Inners for me on Saturday morning[;)]

Yeah, I had only done the Pentlands and GT Red in my 1st year of biking, some of the trails Saz and Alan (Geetee) have done I wouldnt have got near, especially Saz with her 80mm J2 forks - Top marks methinks

LOL - No, some guy that I used to go out biking with at GT quite a lot but he kinda stopped when I started doing other (man made[:)]) trails. he only ever does GT Red which is a shame and a bit of a waste of a good bike IMO - he has had it for about 6 months and it has only ever seen one trail.
