New Wharncliffe XC trail

Might be worth having a mini forum ride around Wharny as a few people seem up for it. Dax seems like he knows his way around and could act for a guide for us, and I'm sure sonic knows his way around as well...

I'd be up for some of that, not been to Wharncliffe since the end of last year.
The new trail looks sweet [:D]

Would make a good forum day out with all the variabilty, just that not much facilities nearby unless you drop into grenoside where are some good pubs and shops.
This is a map of the proposed XC route:
http://www.wharncliffe.info/index_files ... ONSMAP.pdf
As you can see, very very steep parts to the north, so bringing gears is a must!

Why dont we all turn up for a digging day? Then you could all laugh at my mates new scar, which he got last week thinking he could ride the northshore section.0

Sounds a good plan! though my fitness is woefull due to my illness, but I'll try and hop along. Not long to the Wharny Weekender too.

Good looking vid , I only seem to get to wharncliffe when the weather has been crap and the place is like a bog just about everywhere , last time I took a sapling out on a downhill and had a mesh print on my shoulder from my body armour for nearly 2 weeks[B)].

Who's up for a ride out then, to Wharney that is?
Sonic, it's 675ft climb from the bottom of the DH to the top car park and just under 2 miles, so my Garmin says, feels like a lot more, lol.
I've started to map the routes round the woods now, will upload them soon.
Sonic, would be great to see you out on a ride, are you well enough for a ride??
Would be a good ride, new XC, along wall trail - could do fastrack - then the crags and the south trails to come up on the right side of the top car park.
AnndyB, sorry to here about being jobless now. I'm sure you'll get something soon.
Running two bikes now, built up my Nitrous for Wharney not so good for XC but still doable, just a little harder on the legs and lungs.
So who's up for a ride out?

I am. Wharney isn't too far at all for me! One question though, I ride a HT with a 100mm fork, are there any trails that arent TOO gnarly? Would my bike (and I) cope?!

I'd have the same concerns now being the owner ( well I will be when I finish paying for it at the end of August [:I] ) of a 100mm forked XC hardtail!
If we stuck to trails like the one shown on the vid. then obviously no problems, what we need to avoid are those wheel crunching boulder fields - you know the one's - Peaty fly's through them as if they are not really there!

Even though i've never been before I'm sure you will be fine. After all I will be in the exact same position, if not a little worse. I'm running RST's [:0][V]

Most of the trails are ridable with a HT. The new XC should be no problem, you'll have the advantage when going uphill (there's lots of uphill), grrrr.
Same for the fasttrack, might be a bit bumpy for you lot on HTs more like riding a cobbled street, lol. The new sections are all ridable by HTs.
Most of the woodland trails should be no problem for you, there are lots of roots to ride over, which are dammed tricky in the wet.
It can be quite muddy in places so don't forget a change of clothes, you might need them.
The knarly stuff is mainly the DH sections, which I don't think you'll want to do. But there is some good trails in the woods which leads to the FR area.
There are plenty of pics in my photo gallary, go have a look. (link in sig)
So who's up for this weekend (I'll be riding either way)? or propose another day?

I'd be o.k. for this Sunday - was thinking about Guisborough but it's a couple of hours drive - Wharney's only an hour. Forecast is fair so should be dry me thinks! Let me know [:)]

Fit enough for short rides - so will sum it up closer to the time. I'll be taking my 80mm forked Zaskar - the XC course looks ideal for that, weaving in and out of trees requires a quick handling machine. For the Black route can always break the Ruckus out, but its 8lbs heavier.

I'll probably be on my 38-40lb Nitrous as my Spesh enduro is in bits. So, I'll be a bit slow on the uphill section and the wife's bike is too small for me.
Need new wheels for the Enduro and skint at the moment, will have to wait untill pay day to get it trail ready.

I saw a couple of guys going for it on Sat. If I did that, I'd have to ride back up it to do the XC

See if you can clean it without dabbing! I had quite a few 'front wheel stop dead' moments as it ploghed into a rock that was too big, as I was too slow!

Lol.
Also depends which bike I use. The Totems on my Nirtrous loves bumps, rocks, just sucks them up.
The bombers on the Enduro are good but don't handle the bumps as well as the Totems.
I'll start a post under rides section for this weekend ride, let me know who's going and which day u prefer.
