Anyone fancy one?

I was thinking 30th or 31st June, or the next weekend if people are doing the Cyclone.

- Keilder to Newcastleton

- Other suggestions - I'm sure Gordan and Steve will.

I'm in. Kielder Newcastleton could be a good 'un for the first epic. I'm doing the cyclone on the 15th, and working the weekend after that though, and a Saturday would probably be better.

Our usual weekend rides are about 20 - 25 miles so if we do an "epic" it's usually one that involves a lot of climbing...

Besides, we can't all be young and fit like you Dunk... When you get past 25 your joints start to deteriorate and suddenly cycling is hard work!

What sort of riding is Kidland Forest - is there any (rooty/steep/technical/fun) singletrack there? Could easily be persuaded to spread my wings and head down if there is!

Well thats teh fun of it isn't it? The one i do does alot of climbing up rocky hills [:(] which is very painful. But the decents are worth it [:D] Have fun when you go!!!

Ooooh, I've only just spotted this. I should be up for it (not working I don't think). Have some good routes planned for the lakes that should avoid too much of the touristy spots?? But as usual I'm open to suggestions.....

I'd also got a route planned from Newcastle up to Keilder with a 'cheeky' camping spot and a leisurely ride back on the Sunday. Pub lunch on the way.....

Also, if anyone fancies it a colleague of mine and I are going to do the 60 mile Cyclone route the following weekend (i think it's the following route).

T'would be nice to finally meet you Saz, and the more the merrier (as usual). What is the likelyhood of the scottish contingent making it down our way for once, instead of us always having to come and visit you, with only your rubbish trail centres and crappy access laws ;-)

fyi, have you seen that Kielder is opening up officially on 23rd July?
http://www.kieldertrailreavers.com/foru ... opic=217.0. They're basically doing a 7 stanes, but most of the work has been done by volunteers...

The day before is a tidy up / get ready for the launch etc.

btw, I made it to the Penrith merida, but was rather late getting there on the Sunday, was at the back of the starting line-up. Highlight of my riding year so far though :-D

If Kidland is the one near Alwinton then you could try link into the border ridge over Windy Gyle and loop around. Clennel street is that way as well.

If you start from Alwinton you can head out along Clennell street, but if you take in Windy Gyle it's a drag back along the road. You could start from Barrowburn 868107 or Rowhope Burn 859115.

Dave, doing the great north forest ride tomorrow strating at Whickam Thorns, myself and Dave have been roped in as mobile mechanics as the bike place sponsors the ride. Should be finished for 12-1 ish so could be tempted with a blast around chopwell afterwards if you fancy?

As for the june 30th epic then sunday is definitely best for me. Cheviots and Windy Gyle etc sounds good. Another one to consider is the cross fell, high cup nick loop. The lakes would be great as well.

I am in the lakes next weekend but will probably be too wasted to go out on Sunday. Robin is planning a 40k plus route over there that we hope to do soon. Anyone wants to tag along we would have room for three more. Last time we had a great day out and did Skelghyll woods, Garburn Pass and then accross and caught the ferry to do Claiffe Heights. I think the next one will be a similar big day out.

There be witchcraft in the air. Gordon that's the exact route Robin was on about! That's a bit wierd. Has he been in the shop or something? Do you want the memory map of the route he sent me? I know I am going to hate it, but I am in. Probably be doing a lot of walking. Going to be particularly hard carrying the bike up Nan Bield. But can't do next Sunday.

Strangeness is indeed in the air. No, not seen Robin but the route is pretty well known as a tough nut of a ride, it was featured in STW a few month ago. You will indeed be doing plenty of walking but the descents are worth it, they are some of the steepest and most technical the lakes has to offer, great fun. Did the loop myself last june and it is indeed a real killer, i'm sure you'll love it though :-)
