Resting Heartbeat

I have been riding to work for over 1 year now. I ride fairly intensivly for about 20 mins each way every day - Avg almost 20mph(on road bike). I ride at the weekend at Llandegla at (what I think) is a more than respectable pace.
My resting heatbeat is around 70, but just standing up jumps to over 100, when I had a health check at work my fitness came out as moderate.
I have lost 3 stone (now 12.5 stone) over this time and was a complete slob before - what's going on, should I worry or will it just take more time???
I'm going to put a HRM on tommorow morning and see what it's running at!

I pesonally wouldn't worry 'bout it. I know that you can use a HRM to exercise in certain zones. But sometimes wonder if they give to much info anf therefore worry arises from their use. I only worry when my resting heart rate goes to zero, but a quick smack on the chest gets it going again... well so far......

Good point - not seen zero yet!!!
I know when I first started cycling it was peaking at over 190 - stopped wearing the thing soon after and it was only after having a health check at work did I get it out again.

When you stand up, your blood pressure to your head falls - so the heart compensates by increasing its rate until the arteries contract some. This is called orthostatic hypotension (I think!) and is quite common. I have it.

Might explain why I feel a bit light headed after standing up.

Lol! My HR is all over the place. In a morning it can be lower than 40.
Postural hypotension is often a sign of dehydration. I get it cos I am ****ed.

Yep, on my two litres a day!
Can't hurt to check with the doc about the heart beat raising when you stand. What is your blood pressure?

Yes some of the symptoms like my incredibly small bladder I've had since birth! But when you read them together.....
I once had a lump in my groin, went on the internet and invented all sorts of illnesses for myself - In the end it turned out to be a hernia (It took me almost year to see a doctor) - us blokes are really pathetic when it comes to health!!
too much information........

I call that a head-rush, definitely know the feeling. I usually get them from exercise withdrawal. They're most annoying when you go for a pi** in the middle of the night, when you have the light beat you in the face

Its the same as above - postural hypotension. Blood pools in your limbs, you stand up, head gets starved of oxygen for a brief second. Then your nervous system kicks in and raises the pulse and narrows arteries to restore arterial pressure.

Sounds like dehydration and relaxation from the beer! If I get up too quick in a morning (aftenoon ;-)) I get horrific palpitations. My beta blockers help a lot though.

Resting Heart Beat depends on age and fitness primarily! anywhere between 60-75 is normal for a male 26-45!
to be honest doing 40 minutes a day isn't really going to reduce your pulse greatly unless your climbing greatly! pulse rates tend only to b low in athletes of endurance discliplines

Whilst maxing the relax to a couple of episodes of Lost recently, my heart-rate dropped to under 50. I was seriously relaxed though. It's around 75 as I'm sat here typing. I have a bad hangover though, so that's probably not helping0
-
Think as my heart rate is usually down around 55-60. Most I ever got it up to was 214.... and it hurt like mad! It only really starts to knacker when my heart rate gets over about 185.
Oh crap.. me chest feels tight and I've got a tingling sensation up me left arm!

DUDE _ "DONT WORRY ABOUT IT" I had a resting heart rate of 44 a minute but even when i was 18 stone i did...I lost 4 stone and spent 10 years getting super fit. still got a resting heart rate of 48 now. The main thing i learned was not my resting heart rate and not even if it shoots up to a 100 if i get up quick , i learned that my maximum heart rate ten years ago was 250 now its 180. Thats the main one i noticed had a significant change for the better.Remember keep checking your heart rate causes stress ad its stress thats the KILLER..0

rode home today 15 miles. HR 158-180.
Main reason I use it is I like to check it settles down quickly when the workload decreases0
