Gavin, i'll use the yeti for everything, no question! it climbs great, flies downhill (its only me that holds it back), seriously it will do it all; with the right kit/set up the blur will too..
Had i been on the yeti on saturday i think i'd probably have been ok and not ended up with a faceful of earth [:D] it was simply that i hadn't ridden the giant for a while and had missed it! it obviously was feeling neglected [}:)]

Thnaks for the feedback...think you've helped me on the decision
Re the Yeti any recommendations on set up/ initial purchase since it sounds like it may have taken you a little while to get it 'just so'
Any experience here is much appreciated.......what needed adjusting to hit that sweet spot?
I am looking at a predominantly xc machine, single track etc yet with the ability to get up those painful climbs and still handle my (lack of) adventure downhill
One plus of the ;painkillers is I might see a reply at a weird time
Bye

[:D] now look whats happened, having had a painful night last night, i was trawling the net to try and find bargain replacements for the kit that got broken (helmet) or cut from my body (jersey & camelbak) and completely missed out on the forum!
well my 575 was a second hand frame and shock (RP3) from the USA.. initially all was fine, however it became clear that all was not well with the shock and herein lay the problem.. eventually i was questioning whether i had actually bought too much travel, hence the need for Foz's advice
with the bike set up for xc (as with your req's/style) i ended up swapping the rp3 out for an rp23 (push'd by TF Tuned)and this, combined with such a fab frame is what has provided such an inspirational ride.. seriously, the combination just works so well for me
once you get your bike, spend time getting the set up right, getting the shock pressures right will influence hugely the bikes ability, which is of course, directly translated into your enjoyment..
when are you going to put your order in then? [;)]

Gavin, it's going to be a tough decision!
Ffluff clearly loves his Yeti; I love my Blur. Both set up for XC, and either I'm sure will be good for you. I'd definitely agree with Fluff about the RP23. I have it on my bike, and it's been a revelation.
Good luck!
Mike.

Agreed, Ffluff. Still going to be a difficult decision for him! And I bet when he's chosen, there'll be at least a moment when he wonders whether he should have chosen the other one [;)]

I'm the guy that Gavin C mentioned earlier in this topic, I test rode a Yeti 575 at the Lookout (actually to replace a busted Litespeed, my Santa Cruz heckler 99 is still going strong) I thought the 575 was stonking and I'm now waiting to take delivery of my new frame....

Good to see you were suitably impressed by the Yeti as to act
Your enthusiasm led to me having a couple more demos on the blur and yeti.
I 'extremely marginally' went for the Blur and even now know that there was actually no wrong decision between the 2
Am awaiting delivey myself from Mountain Trax and cant wait........
....will however avoid yetis for a few weeks so I dont doubt my decision!
Enjoy the new bike, I'll definitely do likewise
Thanks all for your input

Another yeti 575 (2007 frame) owner here. I love mine to bits. Got the carbon swing arm upgrade and must say it's the most amazing bike I have ever riden. I love it to bits. Love the RP23 shock too vast improvement over the float R I had on my marin.
I have spent a lot of time tweaking it and it just gets better and better.
Enjoy your Blur Gavin, it's a great bike.

Hi Mike
Went for the Blur LT....keeping my HT which is a (old but) racey bike
Wanted something a bit different to my current bike
If it had been purchased as my sole bike I would have gone down the Superlight or Blur XC route as per your beauty
Richard H
Wont get any arguements from me on that Yeti....looks great and it rode bloody well.......I dont have any regrets re going down the Blur option but I would not have lost out if I'd jumped the other way. Bromley bikes were very helpful on the Yeti front as per Mountain trax for the sc.
Hope I enjoy mine as much as yours
