So rather than look at what the company does and how it works, you've decided that you'll base your opinion of it on who happened to buy it?

Do you always shun logic, or only on thursdays?

So you are judging a whole company on one branch of a large chain?

my decision was that there are much better shops out there and to an extent yes but as daft as that may seem its how most of us form an opion. I am basing it on some of what I have heard about other stores

Kinda off topic but, how old do you have to be to work in halfords? In any section.

As soon as you have your NI number. There was a girl working at Perry Barr when she was 15 - about a month before her 16th birthday.

    No John *looks innocent*.

Anyways, all the bikes I, or my family, have bought from Halfords have been perfectly built. In fact, my old one is still going, had it for many years, still in the family. My dads old Peugeot racing bike is also surely centuries old by now, nothing wrong besides the original wheels kept getting pinch flats. Hardly Halfords fault though!

Wikipedia's 'halfords' entry just doubled its hitcounter in the last 10 minutes.

I'd say it's more because until they started this bikehut thing, and started it properly, /no/ halfords had bike-knowledgeable staff it, no halfords had relevant or good stock, and so it was generally impossible to get any decent parts or advice from a Halfords.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

Wrong. I used to work in Halfords around 1992 in Purley Way. Back then they were _trying_ to get Bike people in all the stores. The cycle manager used to run his own shop. The Asst manager was a 2nd/1st cat roadie, I got the job PURELY on the basis of my racing background. There was a young part timer there who was a VERY good downhiller and partly sponsered.
I made sure ALL the part timers knew the principles of bike mechanics and it was my job to train them.
I also made LOTS of high end sales, and encouraged the other sales satff to sell the best possible and most suitable, NOT nessesarily what the customer came in looking at

    <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"><i>Originally posted by Big Red S</i>

Now they've done the Bikehut, generally each one has at least one person who knows what he's talking about. But they still only tend to attract the bottom end of potential bike shop people. The kind of people who've been sacked from bike shops, or who can't get a job in a bike shop yet but want relevant experience. And it shows.

Also, as long as their primary focus is on shifting as many œ70 full suspension abominations as possible, I see no reason to trust any advice they might give.
    <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

I have found that the staff in the shops has gone downhill round where I live since the 'Bikehut' has come round. They are _trying_ to get bikey people in, but they cant find them/ pay enough from what I have found.

They DO have a good selection, and have the GOOD range catalouge on show, but most of the time the staff don't know what the bikes are for.

There is a difference in the stores stock though, depending upon the staff's biking preference. One store has AMAZING BMX stuff in, while another has a VERY good range of XC accessories including tryes.
