got around œ2500 to spend, Gotta be an ideal first car but stil be ever so slightly nippy. Thinkin about a 1.25 fiesta 16v zetec? Clio's etc? whats everyones opinons?

Everyone is going to say VW, which is fine.

I'm going to run with a Clio, get a 1.9Dti, it'll be nippy as hell and have enough torque to kill a 1.6 VW golf on hills.
The great thing is, as its Diesel and not a very common first car the insurance won't bankrupt you.

or, why not try doing what clarkson did, go to a car dealer (Audi, Volvo etc) and see what theyve got, old part exchange cars that arnt worth anything. you can pick yourself up a realbargain. clarkson paid œ1 for his [:D]

A 1.9 turbo diesel Clio was one of the first cars I ever drove, and they drive really well.

1.9 Turbo Diesel though, won't be cheap on insurance, from any angle.

With regards to VDub, i'd go with a Polo over a Golf. Older Golfs are quite hefty and not that quick, whereas a Polo with a similar size engine will be quite nippy.

Seating position isn't the best in 206's. And I hate the gear sticks as well, far too small.

Nah, peugeot 306 1.9 turbo diesel, much more reliable than your puny little clio. I've had mine nearly two years now, and it's only had 1 new power steering pump, 2 fan belts, new rear brake hoses and pistons, 1 new radiator, 2 new cylinder heads, 1 new camshaft, set of new valves, new timing belt, new timing pulleys, new exhaust...............

runs fine now though!

Well the clio has had new tyres and brake pads. And a new rear windscreen from when it was boshed in by chavs.

Dave. Get the one you showed me, the one with the two tone seats, the blue and grayish black, the one that is a similar model to mine. That looks a fine example at a good price.

Oh, and mine has had:

new discs
new pads
new windscreen
new brake calipers
new cambelt

and i think it may need a few other things soon.

but i was able to do all but the windscreen and the cambelt, so it saved me muchos dinero.

1999 Hyundai accent! am i taking the piss? NO! 1.3 84bhp, made from cardboard probably so light as old mans stamp collection. Fits two bikes in back with both front wheels off. IG 5 so cheap to run mines never broken down, will do 55 in 2nd. Never mind the 1.5 star safety rating......or the fact it rolls like a silly round corners.......

Personally id get a 306 turbo derv just so i could fit a dump valve lol
