Or make one that is a tree. Therefore minimum effort needed to work the wood.

That is gonna be difficult because there is a lot of work that goes into a guitar. Are you planning on making it work and sound in tune, or is it a case of puttin strings on and making it look good?

Yeah but there is a fair bit of work. For example, he is gonna have to make a bridge, measure out every fret size to neck length and make the little tuning knob

  • My Telecaster is made out of Alder, I'm not sure how expensive that is or where you can get it. The neck will be a jam to make, your going to have to spend weeks shaping and sanding it down. If you get it right though, it'll be quite an achievement. How do you plan on getting the machine heads and frets? Not to mention the pickups, and making the bridge? Can you buy all of that?

I'm guessing as it's woodwork, it'll be allowed to "buy" the electric components needed.

Acoustic would be an absolute jam to make...

To be honest, I'd just make the body and order a neck. If you're up to making a correctly radiused fingerboard, intonated frets and an adjustable truss rod then I'd be very impressed.

Warmoth make beautiful necks to exact requirements. www.wdmusic.co.uk also do necks and you can order an unshaped headstock to do your own design and drilling pattern. Pricy at about œ120 but it would be worth it to get a decent guitar out of it.

would definately be best to order in the fingerboard. and making the neck itself is doable, but it depends strongly on how good you are. you don't want an uneven or rough neck as it'll be horrid to play.

Buy the neck. They are very very difficult to do well, and it'll look better for it.

I made this for A2 DT. The only things in the photo not made by me are the neck and machine heads.

    Me or him?

I was using a floating bridge I made, but decided to use a standard fixed bridge like so

Yet to fit it though. Wiring is all done, but not to be installed until I have put the bridge on and varnished it.
