as many people have told you, not well... but it seems you dont want the coiler, even though it is known as a very good bike, and perfect for what you want... The Coiler wont be light but the big hit would weigha ton, and with geomerty totally wrong for climbing/ singletrack... IMO, you desberately are wanting someone to come along and tell you that a big hit climbs like a beast- well its not going to happen unless they own one and are dillusional because of it... IS this your first bike?

yeah i know the coiler is a good bike and would buy it
but i want to know if i spend œ200 more will i get a better bike that will do everything
i just want an owners opinion on the big hit
if its no good for singletrack and the odd uphill then it'll be the coiler I'm buying

I own a big hit, and as i already said. for a gravity sled, it pedals pretty well on the ups [:)] just take it smooth like you are just cruising and the suspension bob is minimal.

of course the coiler is going to bob less. but at the same time its going to suffer slightly on the way back down. and as you say, the components aren't as good.

personally, i'd say the big hit was the better buy, but i'd advise trying them both out. as either way you could end up kicking yourself and thinking you bought the wrong bike.

But if you can find one for œ900 and upgrade the forks, it's a great bike.

Although the frame looks a little different this year, the 2006 ones still a great design.

Important bits.

It isn't worth RRP. Not at all, which is a pity, since they're lovely bikes. I've replaced the wheelset, cranks, stem and forks. The cranks it comes with aren't bad, but won't last alllllll that long! The wheelset's not bad, but a bit heavy.

The forks... They're okay for single large hits, but not much else! The stem was preference.

Yep i totally agree the coiler is poor value for 1500, I must admit I was tempted by the big hit when i bought my bike, it does look very nice indeed. But then its horses for courses, and if you are going to do more dh than uphill i suppose its the best choice
