the decision is between a specialized big hit 1 2007 or a kona coiler 2006
http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.p ... m1b7s1p138
http://www.rushextremesports.co.uk/prod ... 1s175p2281
the only thing between them i a bit of difference in travel and a bit in price
does anyone have any links to reviews for both of them?
anyone know how the big hit climbs?
what is adjustable geometry on the big hit? what does it allow?
will either of these bikes fit on a normal bike rack?
and peoples opinions on which to get please?
thanks

the big hit will be a biaaaaaaatch! to climb on, the shock adjustment allows for a steep/slack head angle setting.
the kona will most *likely* fit on a normal bike rack, the kona is lighter and less cumbersome (sp?), yet it couldn't take as much of a thrashing as the bighit.

was thinking about the climbs on a big hit and could be a bit soft.
but what do people think to the coiler because people have reviewed it badly sometimes because of bad spec
which will be better for alround use but leaning towards freeride?
really want the big hit
but the coiler looks better for singletrack
or will the big hit be ok on singletrack?
i ride mostly at dalby forest
what will be at home at dalby?FLINNY0 -
Ran abig hit for ages, loved it!!

I think I'm the only one on the forum who doesn't, or hasn't ever owned a coiler.0 -
I've got the 05 deeluxe coiler. Had no major problems so far. Climbs well, and decends better. Had it for a good price too - œ950 new. Bargain.0
-
well seems everyone owns one so you say they arn't very helpful are they
maybe the 2006 coiler is rubbish, i dont know
might buy it for œ900 but i don't know what the kit on it is like
nobody wants to tell me lolFLINNY0 -
but the big hit looks soooooo goodFLINNY0
-
I agree, but your never gonna be able to pedal it uphill!
The coiler will do nearly anything you can throw at it.0 -
cool sounds good
what about last years big hit fsr 1?
cant find one syllabub anywhere
is that any better than this years for climbing?FLINNY0 -
any other ideas for a bike that will do it all like the coiler at about the same price but looks a bit better?
not really keen on the rear linkageFLINNY0 -
Specialized Enduro? Again a "all mountain" bike.
Prob pick up a 06 for around œ1k.0 -
not real keen on them
want one that i can improve on so now i can do everything with singletrack, shore and dh/fr then go for bigger stuff if i like the bike after a year or so
looking at norco shore 3 but cant find lasts years syllabub
might just go for a big hit and go for it on singletrack
?????FLINNY0 -
I got the 2006 coiler from paulscycles and im really happy with it. Its not worth 1500 though, so getting the last years model is a good call, because it doesn't have a good spec if your paying 1500, but for 900 you can't really complain. Read current issue of mbuk, should give you a good idea. I find mine really easy to do slow speed technical stuff on because it feels so well balanced and its ok for a bit of dh too.

A lad I know rides his Coiler at Dalby and it's perfect for doing the red and black routes.

The big hit climbs fine uphills, better than you'd ever expect from it. i've ridden coed Llandegla on my big hit, no troubles atall [:)]

I bought an 06 Coiler recently to use for freeride and DH and generally was pretty happy with it. The fork (drop off IV) is a bit of a pogo stick and the rebound adjustment takes a lot of tweaking and is internal. I got rid of the forks and replaced them with Fox 36's and the thing flies. Used it on CwmCarn Downhill the other day and it was fine. Can also be used for xc if you have strong legs! Crap specs arent the end of the world as its enjoyable treating yourself when something breaks!0

I believe this month's MBUK actually has review doodad in with the big hit and the Coiler in.
I love my coiler [:)]

yeah have read them but doesn't show the big hit fsr 1 and its has the new coiler in
they've changed the design of the coiler a bit and wondered if it was anything vital
hey "rubber side up"
do you own the big hit with a single small chainring?
what is it like on singletrack? (big hit)
what big hit is it?FLINNY0 -
I had a Coiler for a few months - rode really well, forks were corr blimeye, wasnt worth œ1500.
But if you can find one for œ900 and upgrade the forks, it's a great bike.
Although the frame looks a little different this year, the 2006 ones still a great design.0 -
ok cool
thanks alot for all this guys
dont want to buy a bike and then end up will one i cant use all the time
dont want to get the big hit if it wont go uphill
but i really like it
but the coiler i know will do everything, even though people say the forks arn't great.
but dont like it as much as the big hit fsr 1 07. looks good with the colours and the saddle
will the big hit go on a normal rear mounted saloon bike rack? doesn't look like it will reallyFLINNY0 -
bike rack wise, its probably easier totake the wheels off, the frame design makes it tricky to fit in most racks.
That said, i've not tried mine on a rack yet.

Buying a bike on looks alone, knowing it wont do everything you want it to do is a bit foolish in my opinion

yeah
it not going on a normal bike rack would be the reason i wont buy it
i'm sure it can get on somehow
what do you think?
how does your big hit ride?
and good going uphill a bit?FLINNY0 -
well obviously i'm going to use it for freeride and downhill
just i want to know if it will handle singletrack and the odd climb?FLINNY0 -
