The Church of england are upset, because apparently it encourages gun culture, along with Mothers against gun crime. I don't think killing aliens constitutes encouraging gun culture. Plus the fact that the game is 18 rated, means that it really isn't aimed at those who would be most vulnerable.

I thought the CofE were unhappy at the desecration of a (virtual representation of a) church?
I can kind of see where they are coming from. Churches have almost universally been places of safety and refuge, sidestepped by war and killing: In the middle ages, a fugitive who hid in a church was not allowed to be forcibly expelled for forty days.
It has been almost universally enforced, too. I don't recall any account of anyone fighting their way /through/ a church. Sieges have happened, but it's generally accepted that armed soldiers do not enter churches in anger.
And, after these hundreds of years of that, I think they've got a right to be a bit startled at someone setting a shoot-em-up game not just in /a/ church, but in a specific one.

Ah c'mon BRS... I'd have thought you would know Thomas Becket
For what its worth... The church have always hated violent games, and can see why this one stings them a bit more. But in todays age nothings sacred. Its possible to take offence at anything and everything. Jut like the forum, if you don't like what your seeing, don't look. Its not like christians are huge fans of computer games anywho, but as soon as someone hears about something they don't like they think they can complain till kingdom come.
I'm more offended at a church "asking for a donation" AKA Sueing.

The Church of England are completely right.
The kiddy fiddling priests should be shi<s></s>t scared though, since when the apocalypse does come, they're going straight down.

Church of England ministers are allowed to marry, and don't generally feel the need to fiddle kids. It's the catholic church you're looking for...0 -

This sums it up pretty well
ON a more serious note, I see no reason as to why a fictional game involving <i>aliens</i> would displease a religion.

I think permission should have been asked, i dont think they were right to ask for money though. I would also like to know what would have happened if it had been set in a mosque in manchester, im no racist but i think they would have had it off the shelves straightaway in order not to offend the muslim ppl, why do christians always get the raw deal? Fair enough england is now 'multi cultural' but doesnt that mean that christian value still stand equal to those of muslims, and damn i jus realised ive gone off on a rant.........

In timesplitters 2 on PS2 you fight in Notre Dam Cathedral and I didnt hear the religious group who own that (not sure who that is) up in arms over the use of the building. In TimeSplitters you were fighting aliens and/or zombies I'm not really sure.... Also in CoDUF you have to blow up the spire of a church and hunt down Nazi bazooka teams from the spire, that games based on at least a small amount of fact. I mean the Town of Foye does exist. Just sounds a bit petty to me really.

It's because muslims are far more into amateur pyrotechnics than christians.

I thought the game was about aliens in the <b>1st</b>world war... was that in the 60's? I think it would have been quite rare to find a mosque turn of the century.

Wasn't it set in the fifties, presuming WWII hadn't happened?
Either way, Muslims started arriving shortly after the acquisition of India.
