yea, you create a partition on the hard drive, and install it. Really simple. You pick your prefered OS that starts up every time you turn it on, and if you want to use the other, you hold down the apple key and you pick which one you want to boot up.

Hmm, So that means having XP 'instead' of the mac version :( dont fancy that.

    Sony Vegas System Requ:
    Microsoft Windows 2000,XP etc

^^ take it that means no MAC allowed?

Id also like to add that trying to edit videos on a laptop doesnt compare to doing it on a full sized computer, Your talking about plugging a bigger screen into it, Youd probs have to add an external harddrive to fit all the footage onto it, Laptop speakers arent up to much so you may have to plug external speakers into it, You need a decent mouse because touchpads arent up to much for draging (imo anyway), Laptops just dont make much sense for what you want to do. Theres no point making it portable when you have to drag the extra crap around with it,

    havent fallen off,
    im just having a rest

No. It means having them both. And when it starts up it asks you whether you'd like to use XP or OSX.

Well a portable thing for using at parties/out and about etc.

But then a fixed setup at home containing 'moniter, speakers, mouse etc'

But then unplug and take it out you know.

I'm typing this on a macbook, and it has the same spec as the one your looking at.
    Good points:
    It looks stunning ... laptop.

Really, the only thing you mentioned that you couldn't get with a 'normal' laptop is Front Row.

Yes, you can emulate XP on it.

    Install, not emulate.

Spose that would be ok, Its just when it comes to dragging external hard drives with all the leads and stuff, Your laptop bags going to have to be pretty big.

It means that when you turn it on, you pick one or the other on startup, if you want to switch, you hit restart. You can access the windows files from the MAC side of the partition, it appears as a folder on the desktop. But you cant access mac files from the windows side of the partition.

http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/apple_boot_camp.asp Thats a review of it, it explains it pretty well.

I thought I'd still use windows regularily so I installed it. I've found that I rarely use it anymore now, the only thing I use it for it syncronising my mp3 player which only works with media player 10...

Ah well thats a great idea.

So i could store all my Videos etc on the Windows side (too edit)

And pictures, music general stuff on the MAC side.

    WINDOWS for editing
    MAC for messing around/games/msn/net/word processing.

    Good idea?

What size screen does that have? (I couldn't find it on the link). you will need a fairly large screen for video editing, i wouldn't consider getting a laptop with anything less than a 15.4" screen for video work.

Also, what video editing software do you intend to use on it?
Final cut pro is the mac standard, but on the PC, you have Avid, which is pretty much THE industry standard (but crap in my opinion).
On a PC, you could also get Vegas home studio (or whatever it's called, the cheap version) which is an absolutely stellar package for the price.
Or then there's adobe premiere, or adobe after-effects for, well, effects obviously.

Also, i noticed that you wanted a laptop "for a change".
You WILL get a much more powerful machine for the money if you buy a desktop, and you could upgrade it over time as your needs grow (although upgrading macs is still fairly limited).

Sorry, i think I should clarify.
FCP is the de-facto standard on apple, if you see what I mean.

In my experience, apple guys get jealous of Avid on PC, and PC users get jealous o fFCP on macs.

Most TV work that i know of is done on hardware-assisted avid systems

But for really really high end stuff, discreet seems the way to go, smoke, combustion etc. offline in FCP or avid, then online using discreet software.
