Mac or PC

I'm into Video Editing and photography and general media stuff.
I'm looking to buy a Laptop good for doing this ^^ (good graphics/processor etc)
I was wondering what would be the benifits of a MAC compared to a normal laptop such as 'Dell'.
Would I still be able to use normal software etc, if not, how would i overcome the problem?
(about 700pounds to spend) NO more
Thanks

Buy a decent desktop to do the same,
Macs are meant to be better for graphical stuff But I use a Windows PC for video editing and its great, Plenty powerfull enough to run the software.
havent fallen off,
im just having a rest

Your probably already used to using Windows, SO that wouldnt take much learning to get to grips with the software, Havnt used a Mac so cant really comment on them, I do know your best off with a full sized comp, Youl get a better spec PC than laptop for the same price, Also adding more hard drives and other devices is easier.

Already got the software, can use it ok.
I can produce a same spec Laptop as PC for same price of 700.
Aren't laptop Macs and Macs in general more graphics/designer based?

Not a lot, given that a Mac is a PC.
What're you used to at the minute? What've you got now? What 'normal' software do you want to use?
The notion that macs are inherently better than IBM clones for design work is, to be blunt, crap.

I say get the Mac. My flatmate had a Vista laptop that he sold on in order to get a Macbook and it's so much nicer. Hell, I want one.
They're bloody good.

If the alternative is Vista, it'd be a Mac every time.

Im use a normal computer at home.
Its not very good, XP but not good processor/ram/graphics etc.
The only thing i own currently is Video editing software which is compactible, Norton Anti virus and Office 2007.

Also, if i bought a new Laptop from say Dell or someone, it'd have Vista anyway.
I would quite like a change (hence, Laptop not PC)
Don't mind getting use to a different Op.. system.

Norton antivirus wont work on OSX, but it's shit anyway.
MS Office will work on a mac if you buy the Mac version. OpenOffice works for free, but I assume there's a reason you're not already using it?

Mac. You can get most software (or better alternatives) to run on it. I know two people who have macbooks and they are great 'pooters.

would you be getting a macbook or macbook pro? and the video editing software on the mac's is great - as far as i know, its among the best you can get, but its fairly expensive methinks. there is some as standard though, it's a hell of a lot better than moviemaker aswell.

Well, for photography you could use the Gimp. There are a few bits of free video editing software, but I've never used any of them.

I would choose a Mac everytime. I prefer the interface, thats my only reason.
Please feel free to debate the subject but an OS war shall not be required thank-you.

norton antivirus isnt needed on OSX
if you decide to get a mac, wait, they're planning on releasing a newer version of the OS sometime soon, it should, if previous releases are anything to go by, be amazing compared to windows vista
you'll need software for the mac, so any software you have now will have to be aquired for the mac, but when using it, its the same.
macs are prety much classed as industry standard for graphic design and media stuff (media depends what your working in tho)
i'd say mac, it was my choice, the only problem i have with it is i'm not able to install and play games i have for windows, other than that i'm doing everything i did before but actually with less stress and yelling at the computer.
if your getting a windows pc built for you by a proper company it shouldnt be a problem, it'll be designed and built to work properly and be cooled properly etc, my pc wasnt.
most people on my course swear by at our macs.
BRS, open office needs to be ported onto the mac using X11, there is a step by step tutorial on the internet saying how to do this.

What size screen does that have? (I couldn't find it on the link). you will need a fairly large screen for video editing, i wouldn't consider getting a laptop with anything less than a 15.4" screen for video work.
Also, what video editing software do you intend to use on it?
Final cut pro is the mac standard, but on the PC, you have Avid, which is pretty much THE industry standard (but crap in my opinion).
On a PC, you could also get Vegas home studio (or whatever it's called, the cheap version) which is an absolutely stellar package for the price.
Or then there's adobe premiere, or adobe after-effects for, well, effects obviously.
Also, i noticed that you wanted a laptop "for a change".
You WILL get a much more powerful machine for the money if you buy a desktop, and you could upgrade it over time as your needs grow (although upgrading macs is still fairly limited).

Its a 13" screen but i will attach an external one.
I also mainly want it for the portability.
I have Vegas Movie Studio + DVD Platinum Ed.
Its amazing.

Vegas movie studio, that's the one, it really is bloody great!
As far as I know, the only thing you'll find on the mac in that price range is I-movie, which is part of the I-life suite (free with new macs).
i-movie doesn't come close to competing with vegas movie studio.
However, if you buy a PC, try and get one with XP on it for now. i don't think vegas works on vista yet.

I'm long past getting into Mac vs. PC debates, especially since, at the level and software most of us are likely to use them at/ with, itmakes next to no difference.
But what i will say is: The 'use what you're used to' advice isn't all its cracked up to be. It's like asking for advice on a track day car and adding 'but i'm used to driving a ford fiesta'...0 -
MAC: Hey PC, what are you doing?
PC: Just playing on the latest game.
MAC: Really? Which one?
PC: Any.
MAC: Oh...... [:(]

I'm typing this on a macbook, and it has the same spec as the one your looking at.
Good points:
It looks stunning, when you pull it out, everyone goes oooooh. The build quality is amazing too, the keyboard and mouse click button are really quiet to use, they just feel solid. I had a go of a sony laptop, and I just thought it lacked in the style and quality areas.
In terms of performance, I have 20GB of free space on my 60GB harddrive and its filled with alot of music and films, and a copy of XP... if your video editing, it might be a good idea to get an external hardrive, or a larger built in one.
I've used I movie HD for some video editing, and its beautiful to work with, although your probably looking for a more advanced program.. I know little about video editing programs.
The build in speakers are decent quality, you dont get any crackling on high volumes.
for just messing around, front row is great for playing music at parties, and the remote control is really handy.
You get used to the screen size, it doesnt make much difference because you sit closer to the screen with a laptop.
Bad points: if your going to connect it to a larger screen, you'll need to buy a little adaptor to go from the mini DV to VGA.
It might also be worth having a look through the referb section of the apple UK store, I got mine for œ480iirc, which is a significant saving.
