How do you track your fitness?
I’m a cycling coach and I just wanted to share something I’ve found to be an essential tool, that I hope will be useful for those guys new to training.
How do you know you’re building your fitness if you’re not accurately tracking it? It took me some time in my early days to figure this out. Truthfully, I discovered it by accident. When I first subscribed to Strava, I noticed what later became a really useful graph under the ‘Progress’ tab. After a few activities, the graph in the ‘Fitness’ section showed how my fitness was changing (increasing…or decreasing!). It didn’t take long to work out that more consistent training paid off with a generally upward heading line. Of course there’s more to it that that but that is what got me started to being able to accurately monitor my fitness.
I now use intervals.icu, which is a fantastic resource but it does have a bit of a learning curve to it.
I haven’t even touched upon how to optimally structure your training, which is an entirely different rabbit hole to explore of course but this you can learn later. I think the important initial elements when you first start out training is buy a heart rate monitor, buy a good bike computer (and record all your cycling activities), train consistently (perhaps every other day to start with) and track your fitness either using Strava or a free app such as FormBeat.
Does anyone use any other fitness tracking apps or websites to track your fitness?

Gosh. Where do I sign you up as my coach? With insight such as "...it didn't take long to work out that more consistent training paid off..." you may well be the MAMiL's version of Tim Kerrison.

Thanks for your help and positive comment 🤦♂️. Not everyone is starting off with the knowledge you have. I did say it's for those new to training. The main focus on the article is on the importance of tracking fitness and what software or an app to use to do that.

I'm not sure anybody should really describe that as an "article", and I don't think it has any kind of "focus", but:
TrainingPeaks
TrainingPeaks Virtual (yes, you can use it as a tracker)
Garmin Connect
intervals.icu
I'm not sure of the purpose of your post at all, unless you're a shill for inervals.icu

Where's the article?

Sorry I meant post (spliting hairs)...

The point is quite clear. Let me make it clearer: By using the fitness graph in Strava or in intervals.icu (no I'm not a shill, what does that even mean?) or in any other fitness tracking app to monitor your fitness, will help those new to training. And before you comment and say quite helpfully that is obvious, yes it might be obvious to you but it isn't necessarily obvious to those new to training. Comprende?

Was the aim of your post really to tell a bunch of cyclists about a Strava feature that's been around for years?
Do you really not know what a shill is?

I think it is fair to claim that everyone on this forum (and there aren't that many of us) already knows how to suck eggs.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -
Is anybody who is over the age of ten and is putting a leg over a cross bar, new to fitness. Unless they’ve been living under a bridge.

There’s no need to be a dickhead about it.
You will find “shill” in the dictionary, quite close to “shyster”.
You’re welcome amigo.
