It’s embarrassing for the so called specialists.

Is MvdP beating the rest of the peloton by minutes in classics embarrassing for them too?

None of the CX guys (bar MvdP and WvA) are high up in the road rankings. None of these guys do a full CX season either (nor a 'full' road season).

The pick and mix of MvdP, WvA, Fem V Empel et al is something only a select few can do. I think this is also a by product of the racing calendar being much shorter than it used to be*. You say 'what'? Yep: MVDP in 2024 has raced, wait for it - only 41 days.

    *For top riders.

Compare say Thomas De Gendt: 75 days.

MvdP is the 6 time world champion. It's not like some random road pro dropping in and giving the crossers a spanking

MVD and WvA used to win cross races by minutes when they were so called cross specialists. The difference is now they ride the odd road race.😉

CX-ing in the dark! Well, not dark with all the floodlighting. Lucinda Brand putting down the power again.

Men's race just started. No MvdP or WvA so wide open.... 🤔

None of the full time CX specialists have the FTP. That is probably also at least partly the reason they are mainly or only CX riders. There is absolutely nothing they can do.

Thibeau Nys might be the exception, though he probably shouldn't be seen as predominantly a CX rider.

MvdP a bit bashed up from his tumble the other day and not racing today.

Great finish to the women’s race today. Van Empel made her way back to Brand on the final lap and took the sprint by a tyre. Puck in third after leading early on.

I wish they’d ban riders from using the barriers to pull themselves along whilst staying on the bike.

Rules, rules, rules, rules... No. Why does it matter?

What I like about CX is that it is not over legislated. Elbows out on the inside of a bend, hogging the best lines etc makes for a much more relaxed affair.

It's always amusing when it goes horribly wrong, and it invariably does a few times a season.

Puck Pieterse wins on a course that wasn't normally her forte but practiced and... won. That's impressive. FvE looked a bit jaded. Brand certainly gave her a hard time. Maybe that sprint against FvE was playing on her mind and she was determined to overcome but FvE looked jaded. Interesting nationals coming up and some doubts put to bed for some.

Brand now way out in front in that competition. 37 and still rocking.

XCO World champion winning a sand 'Cross in Belgium isn't a regular occurence - and shows what a multi talented rider Puck is.

Another excellent women’s race. A bit of pushing and shoving between Alvarado and Zoe as Zoe overtook in the final running section before they had a photo finish sprint for second behind Brand who did her usual last 2 lap charge.

Lot of fun there, Iserbyt v WvA in the last couple of laps was a right ding-dong. Nice to see Wout take the win over the midget pantomime villain.

Do you reckon the PD was dropping his bike in front of Wsuire? as Jez Cox queried.

Alvarado indicated that it was Zoe's bike wheel that she didn't like. I don't think there was any malice in it.

Iserbyt also ran about 10 steps between bikes on his last change.

Does anyone what the dedicated cross riders earn, I was wondering how it compares to what they get paid on the road.

I'd guess the top CX only riders are on a decent wedge; and why they stay in the sport. Start money, contracts with the Superprestige series. They'd earn less if they went to the road. And good on them, the more disciplines that can pay well means riders don't have to transfer to the dark side just to make decent money - see the US Gravel scene.

The only downside is if you want to be a CX pro, you're going to have to move to Belgium; the CX scene in most other countries just can't pull in that money/ exposure/TV.

Yeah it was perfectly reasonable. Zoe cut back across too quickly with her bike on the shoulder next to Alvarado.

Brand would definitely minute the women’s races if she got a decent start. She seems to always close a 20-30” gap in the last lap or two.

The men’s race yesterday was actually a decent one.

Horrific mudfest today in Dendermonde, the women are even having to run on the pump-track section
