Cyclocross season 2024/2025
Eli Eserbyt disqualified from the Exact Cross round 1 for this cracking bit of sportsmanship.

Wow, surprised it was only a dq for that one race.
Does anyone know is MvdP, TP, or more unlikely, WVA are planning to attend any of these races this season?

WvA has said he is planning to at some time. No idea about Tom, and MvdP hasn't decided at all; but wants to equal Eric De Vlaeminck's record of 7 World titles......
Van Anrooij won't race this season due to a leg injury (sounds like an illiac issue) and Puck is on a well deserved rest after a busy summer.
And we have lots of talented U23/ Junior racers stepping up a category.........
Plenty of racing has already taken place; the Trek CX Cup in the US, but sadly no coverage this year as GCN has gone. UK has already had a month's racing, and the XCC World champion Evie Richards won on the first day of racing in the WM league. Germany usually starts quite early, and Switzerland (once the Home of CX) raced in Steinmaur this weekend.

Hoping Pidcock will ride a few more races this season. His/Ineos’s efforts to turn him into a grand tour contender don’t seem to have paid off and now seems to be a bit of disillusionment from both sides. CX doesn’t seem to hamper his early season road form and TP enjoys it.
MvdP ‘s motivation for another title might be lacking, was just too easy last year.
Wout’s bad luck continues and lead to a poor season by his standards. Hopefully CX fits into his plans ahead of the 2025 classics.

Well there's a possibility he'll get a longer ban, that's not the remit of the race commissaires, but I'm led to believe that would be unusual in cross, where differences in the past have been settled by fisticuffs without further penalty
Pidcock said he was going to focus on the road after the Olympics, both short and long term as far as I remember. That might change if the Ineos situation screws his plans, or if the road focus was Ineos's plan not his own. Who knows. Personally I'd like to see him ride offroad and classics and ditch GC, but it's up to him and he seems to be quite stubborn....
I'd guess Van Aert will ride some cross as warm up at least, having been off the bike for a while with the knee injury, but he's only just training again now.

I think I'd describe Pidcock as the archetypal Yorkshireman.......
I personally think he's best suited to one dayers, and continuing MTB, and a bit of CX in the winter. But who knows. Wherever he ends up I think he'll bring Kurt & Xenia with him.

I should mention that this season, the World Cup has 12 rounds, and all crammed into a 2 month window - allowing for certain road pros to be able to target it. Slightly different to the MTB World Cup which runs from April to October.
And still no sign of a UK round....which considering how successful the UK has been in CX Worlds since 2016, is pretty poor.

UCI have handed Eli Iserbyt a 3 race ban, and a CHF2500 fine - his team don't seem too happy - but it is Pauwels, and they often get away with dubious racing.

Is it Pauwels that can be a bit dubious, or mainly just Iserbyt, who happens to ride for Pauwels? Is Vanthourenhout regarded as what in football would be called a shithouser?

There is clearly beef between both Iserbyt and Vanthourenhout with Kamp, as both have clashed with him in races in the past 12 months. I think, generally, Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal have a bad reputation amongst other riders, both on the male and female side (Betsema specifically). There was a lot of social media content last weekend from CX pros past and present who were suggesting that this was the latest in a series of controversies involving PSB riders.

Yeah, it was when Iserbyt jumped on stage and stamped on his nuts that really gave it away.

The women’s race at the Superprestige was a cracker. Nice to see Ceylin get the win. Not quite sure what Brand did at the end, sat up and let van Empel take second from her.

How do they define the 3 races? Is it 3 Ethias cross races, 3 C1 races, or can he just register in the local chippers and call them his "ban races"?

As I understand it, it was the next three races he'd been entered for.

Just caught up on the first few races and seen this. Three races out seems a bit lenient for that.

In a cultural exchange, Damon Alban will be riding the World Cup rounds Tabor and Hulst

Well he came back and won the Exact Cross Heerderstrand yesterday, so it doesn't feel like a three match ban in football

Iserbyt not so happy in the X2O Trofee Oudenaarde - Koppenbergcross (the ducks are back!), some prick threw a full pint over him. I mean I know he's a twat, but come on, that's out of order.
French Eurosport clip has the police escorting the idiot away at the end
Podium elite men
- Lars van der Haar
- Eli Iserbyt
- Toon Aerts
And the best thing about winning this race is that you can pretend you won Paris-Roubaix, while drinking a keg of Flandrien Super 8 in a bath with a giant duck (don't actually do this, they're fluffy this year, not plastic!)
Womens podium:
- Fem van Empel
- Lucinda Brand
- Sara Casasola

The Koppenbergcross on it's usual 1st Nov date, but only 2 days before the European champs in Spain, which are now held all on the one day, instead of being a 2 day champs.
The insularity of Belgian CX never fails.....

November 1st is a public holiday in most of Europe, hence why the Koppenbergcross is always held on it.
The Europeans are a poor relation to both the Worlds and the National Champs. Does anyone really care about it, other than the winner?
1 -
Have you been reading Wielerflits? Europeans are a bigger deal than a National jersey - just because the Belgians don't think so, doesn't mean it's true.
Three races down, and no wins for Bel/Ned. Swiss, Italian & French wins........

Ned and Bel took the two that mattered though, with Van Empel and Thibaut Nys

Women's was a decent race. But such small fields, does cross really need a European championship?
Good to see Felipe Orts on the podium though

Good to see Cam Mason with a good result at the weekend
Seems he's struggled to find last years form until now, but maybe he's waiting to have his best form at the World Cup
