It's just making the stage more predictable when they consistently do the work to set up the likely winner for another team.
The De Plus/Rodriguez gap thing was slightly more interesting, but the rest was the same as they've been failing to deliver on for years. You're not leading the race, you don't have the likely winner from a strong pace, why are you doing it again?

They moved up 4 and 6 places in GC, to 6th and 7th, while not losing any time on 1st place. Seems like an OK day at the office to me.

Really bad day for Tao. Dropped with 9.4km to go, eventually gave up over 20 minutes. Hopefully he's OK and some of that is just taking it easy/dropping time to support Ciccone/stage hunt

I've only seen a German report - https://www.radsport-news.com/sport/sportnews_138432.htm - but he was involved in the crash yesterday, when someone hit him from behind at speed and he hit a pole. It's damaged his ribs and upper arm so I think that's the reason he parked up so early.

I’ve ridden it but it was 35 years ago. We stayed in an apartment 3K up the climb last summer and we are staying there again this summer. The thought of you’ve got 3K of suffering to finish every ride is something when you live in the flat lands of East Yorkshire.
