Roadside video of the crash - all seemed to happen independently.

Kruiswijk fractured his hip in the crash, whilst Van Baarle broke his collarbone.

Can't work out what caused the issue, simply having a wet road wouldn't have been likely to lead to so many simply skidding out like that unless it was a combination of the speed (they seemed to be really shifting) and increasingly panicked braking as more people went down. That looks more like when there has been a diesel spill or those Italian roads where they get olive oil all over them. I only turned on after it had been neutralised but the roads didn't seem wet at that point from memory.

TBH I think some roads just get slippy when wet - bit of oil or petrol or something.

Same happened to me when I broke my shoulder. Nothing you can do.

Looked like new tarmac, which can get a bit greasy when it rains. I think the corner way up ahead caused an issue, then touches of breaks all the way back through the peloton

Also: At what point do Visma tell Van Aert they really, really need him at The Tour?

Looks like Roglic is in some form to go to the Tour, not that Pog is likely to let him have a chance to sprint from 200m out. Gee had a superb ride in 4th, Ineos got the stage started but both riders lost time. Remco didn't do enough to keep yellow.

    That's prime Ineos, isn't it?

They had a plan and committed to it. Better that than sitting in the wheels and hoping it works out for you.

Agreed, Vlasov did a great job in following De Plus though and won that stage for Roglic.

Was surprised how easily Roglic pulled away from Ciccone.

What was the plan? Burn off your domestiques by doing the work on the final climb, then get your leaders dropped by the other teams. Sounds like the plan they've been trying for a while now.

The variation was letting De Plus get a gap before he got caught and dropped. Innovative.

Lots of riders went down yesterday, so no-one quite knew who had the legs and who didn't. Ineos took it on to see who was in contention, and then drew out the best GC riders with De Plus' attack. I'd much rather a team did that than ride defensively.

    You obviously disagree.

Yep, there's so much criticism that mountain stages lack attacking riding. It was good to see a team give it a go and accept they might lose out. For me it differed from the usual Ineos tactic of riding hard on the front then waiting for others to kick off the attacks. They gave it a go and it didn't pay off on this occasion but it could have done. If no-one is prepared to take those chances in 3 weeks they may as well give Pog his yellow jersey now.
