Goes to show how stupid elements of the electorate. They're now saddled with an MP with no real voice who campaigned on a single issue the UK has no real say in.

To be fair, I thought that was a considered and well delivered speech. Spoke well about Starmer and the part about his own background was clearly a subtle call to guard against the rise of Reform and not give in to the right wing whack jobs and racists.

I do think Badenoch, Patel and Braverman all have the same issue if they want to win back all the Reform vote.
Patel and Braverman also have pretty meh records for their times in ministerial positions.
Badenoch v Hunt between the moderates and more extremes?

. . . he also said something like "we need to hold true to the virtues of kindness, decency and tolerance . . . " which seems somewhat ironic given recent policy

Dignified at least.

I wonder who he'll do his podcast with.

Does this mean some labour MPs have to sit in the opposition benches? 🤣
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

You're just in a strop because the SNP got wiped out so you're staying as a principality of England forever 😀

As long as you have enough to be worth protecting 😉

They'll stay in opposition if they just chase Reform.
Hunt is their way back.

Bit weird to hear him describe Starmer as a "decent, public spirited man, who I respect" after that campaign.

TBF Hunt’s victory speech was classy.
Also impressed that he put a great deal of effort into keeping that seat.

Can't remember who asked for this but some analysis of 'what if Reform didn't stand'.

Full recount in South Basildon and East Thurrock this afternoon. Close between Labour and reform.

Am I missing some of the analysis or is it just assuming all the Reform votes go to Conservatives?

That was me, it would have made a significant difference then. It doesn't give a split of who the Conservatives would have taken the 180 seats back from but potentially a swing of 360 seats (again acknowledging that all those Reform votes going to Conservative is massively simplistic and that in many cases Reform were probably a protest vote).

Does illustrate that the supermajority chat was a massive, massive own goal.

I think so, to be fair that's the question I asked though. I'm not sure how ou would get a realistic breakdown other than to ask Reform voters who they would have otherwise voted for. I suspect many would have said no-one.

Struck me as "Beware the supermajority." Public - "Yes please.".

I dunno, seems the final few days the polls narrowed substantially, moving Tories away from LDs to being the obvious opposition.

No, no, he apologised profusely. Summed it up perfectly.

Indeed. Shame (for him) he didn't use the advisors behind that speech for his time at #10 and on the campaign trail!

I always try to burn bridges when I leave a job as well. It's only fair.

Yes, it did seem to be written by some entirely different speechwriter!

John Swinney's talk is to take time to reflect on how they persuade voters on the urgency of independence.
Seems he's really listening to voters on this.

He is such a duplicitous shit who is incapable of self evaluation. Everything is someone else's fault.
Delighted to see him lose. Absolutely deserves it. He's behaved disgracefully.

Not sure anyone is going to miss him.
