La Vuelta 2023: Stage 21:-Hipódromo de la Zarzuela to Madrid. 101.5km ***Spoilers***

Stage 21:- Hipódromo de la Zarzuela to Madrid. Paisaje de la Luz, 101.5km

September 17
Start Time: 16-15BST.

For the finale, once again it's an urban circuit in central Madrid, to provide a day of celebration for the GC leaders and a final chance for the sprinters who have managed to make it right through to the 21st day of racing. There is one intermediate sprint at the 54.7km mark but overall it should be a straightforward

The Paseo del Prado, Paseo de Recoletos, Calle de Alcalá and the Gran Vía feature prominently on the city circuit before the race ends at the Plaza de Cibeles. Each lap is 5.8 kilometres long and as good as flat.

Final Kms.

A right hand bend at less than 5km then works its way toward a hairpin just over 3km to go, a sharp right just over 2km and yet another hairpin just before riders hit the 1km mark. Then it is a relatively straight run to the line, with just a veer rather than a corner, for the final kilometre of the 3,157 which make up the 2023 edition of the Vuelta a España.

What to Expect:

It’s a safe bet that we’ll see another bunch sprint in Madrid. Molano took the spoils last year. Which was rather special, as he actually was the lead-out for Ackermann.

Hipódromo de la Zarzuela

One previous stage departure.

The Hipódromo de la Zarzuela is a race course on the outskirts of Madrid, Spain. It was designed in the 1930s. The architecture is in a modernist style which has been described as racionalismo madrileño. Races held at the facility include the Gran Premio de Madrid which has been held there since 1941.

Madrid

78 stages of La Vuelta have had finales in Madrid
3,223,334 inhabitants

Madrid lies on the southern Meseta Central, 60 km south of the Guadarrama mountain range and straddling the Jarama and Manzanares river sub-drainage basins, in the wider Tagus River catchment area. As the capital city of Spain, seat of government, residence of the Spanish monarch, Madrid is also the political, economic and cultural centre of the country. The city has almost 3.3 million inhabitants and a metropolitan area population of approximately 6.5 million. It is the second-largest city in the European Union.
The site of modern-day Madrid has been occupied since prehistoric times.

Soldaditos de Pavía

Soldaditos de Pavía is a traditional Spanish dish that's a staple of Madrid's tapa bars, but it's also often found in Andalusia. The dish consists of strips of battered and deep-fried cod that are served with a strip of roasted red pepper wrapped around them.
Before the frying, the cod is typically marinated in a combination of pimentón and lemon juice.

Setas al ajillo

This garlicky Spanish invention is commonly served as a sizzling tapa in a clay-dish. It consists of mushrooms that are sautéed in olive oil with garlic. This tapa is typically enriched with the addition of white wine, and it is garnished with chopped parsley before serving.

Callos a la Madrileña

Callos a la Madrileña or Madrid-style tripe is a Spanish dish that consists of tripe, ham, chorizo, and morcilla (blood sausage) cooked in a broth with onions, tomato sauce, garlic, and paprika. Bay leaves, parsley, and saffron are added for extra flavor, while optional ingredients include breadcrumbs, white vinegar, and garbanzo beans.

To justify the inclusion of the word spoiler in the title and to save anyone having to look up the result somewhere else Groves won the sprint from the break from Ganna and Denz.

You omit to mention the peloton caught the back of the break with about 350m to go.
