Latest Watts Occurring has just dropped for inside info on the Ineos squad
  • Race coverage remains the same, so just the last few hours.
So any crazy starts will once again not feature. Instead we'll join at the race at the same time as Dan Lloyd.

Quickstep squad not looking quite as devastating as Jumbo-Visma

Luis Leon Sanchez has been named in the Astana squad. I didn't realise until today, but he's never won a Vuelta stage, and this will be his tenth participation. That surprised me a lot.

DSM line-up is very inexperienced, with four neo-pros (Flynn, Milesi, Onley and Poole) by my reckoning.

Nobody concerned that half of the JV squad "should" be fatigued having just ridden the Tour?

    The bookie's odds:

    5/4 Vingegaard
    3/1 Roglic
    4/1 Evenepoel
    9/2 Ayuso
    14/1 Thomas
    17/1 Mas
    25/1 Almeida
    40/1 Carapaz
    50/1 Vlasov, Vine
    70/1 Bilbao
    75/1 Gaudu, Arensman, L.Martinez

I've gone for a tenner on Roglic and £2.50 each way on Arensman (they don't let you bet big on cycling)

G to podium better odds than Roglic to win the thing though? Skybet has G to podium at 4/1 which seems pretty good.

Always remember, especially in cycling because it's a thin market, that at a British bookie, the British contenders always have shorter odds as they are bet on a disproportionate amount.

Ayuso has gone out to 7/1 at Hills.

    Seems decent odds

It’s the opposite though, G is bigger odds to finish top 3 than Roglic is to win it. Roglic is 5/2 with Skybet to win it, G is 14/1 to win or 4/1 to podium. Those odds seem a long way apart given how close the Giro was.

Fair enough. I wouldn't put Thomas that near Roglic tbh.

It was close because Roglic crashed and took some time to recover.

Roglic crashed after the long Sunday ITT no? Thomas took a chunk of time on that ITT.

That said, Thomas doesnt do two peaks in a season. I’d be surprised if he made top 10. I suspect he will be stage hunting after a while.

Arensman is 3rd step material with G supporting is my guess .

  • If we're getting silly, it's time someone kicked off the Mas debate. He's always pretty handy during the Vuelta.

Landa looked like a fookin statue of rock solidness when he used to ferry Frome to the summits. I keep expecting more.

Thomas has achieved a lot more in the last 8 years. Landa hasn't progressed during that time.

Yeah, a few years ago I used to keep an eye on/follow Landa in great expectation.
Recently I've not given a toss, and will continue not to until he actually does get a result.

Mas and Soler seem interesting characters from watching the Movistar documentary. Soler seemed to assume he was destined to go on to win stuff and then didn't.

Landa is and always was extremely overrated.

I'm planning to be on the Angliru. I think I'm driving between two places on our holiday that day. Anyone got any top tips? I presume you'll need to park somewhere and walk up early doors? Won't have bikes.

I think I'm going from the start town in Ribadesella to Oveido actually, so pretty much on the route
