Have you ever been banned from a forum?

I've got two under my belt: CycleChat and Cycling UK. And I've banned people myself when I was in charge of forums (including the old Cycling+ forum, though in my brief tenure I did more unbannings). Clearly I'm mad, bad, and dangerous to know.

I'm thinking someone mad, bad, and dangerous to know is best avoided.
    Yeah, nah.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

How did you manage a CycleChat ban? Maybe in the 'helmets' thread?

    Mad
Well, some think so for regularly cycling through the night.

    Bad
or at least slightly naughty. (Pale Rider is a nom de plume)

    Dangerous to know
No link, but an anecdote. A long time ago a man living in my apartment building offered to help me move a couch up a short flight of stairs, to spare my wife the effort. We said thanks but no thanks. He insisted. So he grabbed the other end and promptly fell underneath the couch. He broke his hip and ended up in hospital.

Started a thread on the difference between sex and gender which a mod took exception to. Went over to another forum to start it there instead, and posted about it on my own blog. The mod really didn't like that, so banned me.

I was banned from bikeradar (still am) and I don't know why.
I asked the admin and never got a reply.
    I registered with different credentials.

Ironically duplicate accounts to are grounds for being banned.

Before it's too late to tell us, what was your previous username? :)

I've heard if you get caught signing in on a VPN it can be grounds for a ban...

Not heard that one before. Would have thought that the multiple account thing would be more of a common cause ;)

I was going to say. There was a time when certain mods liked to wield their god-like powers.

Some more than others, velonutter seemed to enjoy the power, vtech really was a tool. Nicklouse and supersonic were good.

I had a permanent ban on this account and lived to tell the tale.

I believe @Stevo_666 was banned for a couple of weeks for ungentlemanly conduct.

To be fair, if I had mod like powers I would wield the ban stick with spiteful abandon.

I'm one of the admin on a FB group with 17k members, and most of the time it's not too bad... whether we can keep up with all posts needing approval as it grows more, I'm not sure, but we do occasionally chuck someone out for being a d!ck. With that many members, I'm not going to fret too much unless it's a regular poster with a good record causing a problem, which they generally don't.

Absolutely, to experience all the expressions of appreciation that mods get every day from the punters.

    No disagreement from me there.

Ah, yes, back in the day.

Your ban can't have been that permanent Seano

More to do with the mod involved and their lack of a sense of humour, putting it politely. (And no, it wasn't who you think it might be).
