Was really good to see the break hold off the chase. 👏👏👏

It was a good run in for the break too, nice and twisty but not as dangerous as some were suggesting it might be. Just allowed a bit of disruption. Pollitt was the only one who looked like he might pull them back.

Pollitt stuck an almighty turn in. It's why I've suggested in the non-spoiler thread for people wanting to catch up later that they watch from a bit later out than 5km, as that spell on the front was what really seemed to doom the break.

Alpecin discovering the problem of having the odds on favourite in a bunch sprint.

It will be interesting to see how they try to control things tomorrow. Will they let the break get a bigger gap or try to keep it even tighter? A tough climb 25km from the line will make it even harder.

Tough climb should equate to the break getting more of a leash, since the peloton will reach the climb fresher and will gobble up a lot of time there.

    Tough climb?
Guys it's a five and a half minute effort.

He was right to do so - in the end he proved to be the strongest, but I would have liked Eenkhoorn to have won, in view of Philipsen's attempts to stop him joining the break (3 times, I think)

Who got the most-aggressive rider designation?

Pah. Asgreen would never have written "The Rider" would he?

He had them backed into a corner with the logic of the break to begin with.

It's obvious it's a different generation to me now. Way too much happy clappy stuff for me.

A cynic might suggest he rides for the increasingly unstable Quickstep and isn't interested in offending anyone at this point.

Rather forgot about today, but a stage where the break outwits the sprinters is always a good day and should happen at least once per grand tour. This is the way...

Did Philipsen try to block to prevent him going across, or to give him a bollocking for riding on the grass and risking the peloton? NSF seemed to imply the latter?

Wouldn't help him in future breaks though.
    He's playing the longer game.

The former, he got forced onto the grass by the other Alpecin rider when he tried to pass.
