I probably shouldn't watch interviews with 'gun rights' people. But this is well done.

Deeply satisfying.
How their brains don't catch fire from the sheer stupidity of it I don't know.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

I don't know how the interviewee can keep that self-satisfied look on his face while his brain is simultaneously being exposed.1 -
Because he's getting paid huge amounts of money by the gun lobby, he's just hearing the cash spilling out of the fruit machine after he's hit the jackpot.briantrumpet said:rjsterry said:Deeply satisfying.

It's still weird that the Democrats can't come up with anyone better than Biden (albeit noting that his record for getting stuff done is not vaguely ikpressive). Now seems like he's going to be their main man, and dissenting voices are reducing.

It would appear that Trump isn't all that happy...

Yes, and I thinjk one of the reasons he's managed to get so much done is both canny politics (I think his appeal to bipartisanship os both genuine and strategic) and really knowing how the weird US system works in practice, despite the disruptive effect of Trumpism.
But that said, I'm still surprised that there are no obvious up-&-coming younger challengers... Kamala Harris seems to have dropped off the radar entirely, and no-one else seems to be jostling... maybe they are just all too polite.
The Republican majority in the HoR seems to be squandering its time with performative politics, and actually doing nothing other than trying to pander to a Trumpian base... a couple of their stunts have somewhat backfired... one because Jordan shipped in a load of paid 6 Jan conspiracy theorists, and another as Gaetz actually got a suspected murderer in to lead the Pledge of Allegiance

I realise I meant to say that Biden's record *is* vaguely impressive, not "is not"! Oops.0
-
Must admit I hadn't foreseen the day when I'd see John Bolton defending Biden. This is gloriously nuts.

Isn't the interviewer Trump with his hair dyed? Looks like him, same mannerisms, same 'debating' style of talking over the person trying to answer his questions and even sounds bit like him.0
-
Looks like things might get a little spicy next week...
Meanwhile, Trump is still utterly deranged. This is the ex-POTUS...

I'm not sure that he comes across as any less nuts when stuff's written down. I don't think he's taking terribly well to being held accountable for his actions.

With myself also being a stable genius, I have some sympathy for him.briantrumpet said:I'm not sure that he comes across as any less nuts when stuff's written down. I don't think he's taking terribly well to being held accountable for his actions.
It’s not easy when people just don’t understand you.
But in all seriousness, the sad thing is he does still command huge support. Glad it’s over there.0 -

I get the feeling that the US is teetering on the brink of something Not Very Good, thanks to Trump and his ability to culty-vate millions of Americans who don't see this as at all hilarious. (And sorry that you won't be able to unsee it.)

That is bizarre, also loving the term culty-vate. If that is yours Brian, well done.briantrumpet said:morstar said:

I'll claim that one, as "culty-vate" gets no hits at all on Google.2

Another mass shooting today (actually, it's two, but in the other one it was 'just five injured'), and there were six victims (three children, three adults) and the 'shooter' was killed too. (The US is averaging five children *per day* killed by guns.)
Anyway...

There’s got to be some fascinating (and horrifying) data behind those statistics.briantrumpet said:A bar chart with a zero starting point.
That goes beyond gun ownership and speaks to a societal reason why schools are such a popular target for your meltdown.
Totally messed up country.0 -

Some of the comments under David Hogg's tweet are truly crazy... the gun nuts simply can't comprehend the '0' for the rest of the world, so jump straight into bizarre theories.
Incidentally, Dunblane, with its terrible toll of 17 deaths, was 27 years ago, and is the UK's only such incident. To it's credit, the UK did more than 'thoughts and prayers' as a result.0 -
But at least they are on top of the important issues in child protection and sack school heads that expose their kids to pornography in the form of classical sculptures. As I said on the thread mentioning that, seriously skewed morals over there.0

My personal favourite misuse of statistics is the desire to compare deaths to guns in circulation rather than population size.briantrumpet said:morstar said:

I.e. the sheer volume of guns dilutes the death rate.0 -
Now that obeys the rule of graphs that they should aid clarity.morstar said:

In the comments somebody points out that the shootings in Afghanistan were by Americans0 -
It si remarkable that they have posted this and shows the bravery of the officers responding

"We're not going to fix it" is quite the campaign slogan for Republicans.

That’s quite a powerful watch. Admiration for what they do but simultaneously despairing at the situation.surrey_commuter said:It si remarkable that they have posted this and shows the bravery of the officers responding

That’s a tactical operation in a junior school and it’s not even vaguely close to a one off.0 -
