Considering the numbers some of the teams had in the group behind he should never have got that gap.

How many times are we going to see riders happy to let a rider get away and win rather than work and at least have a shot at victory?

Enough for me to realise that this, actually, is what cycling is and probably always has been...

You've got a better chance of winning if you are one of five or six at the front in the final 200m than if you let some bloke ride off on his own. Small group sprints at the end of a Monument are a lottery.

    Hatch really over egging it.
WVA even managed to lose the sprint to Herman’s, who had obviously been hiding in the team car.

As a race it was like watery soup after last week’s Roubaix roast.

Is this the day when all the chat about promise becomes reality?

40 km of action compared with 200km+ of crazy race drama

    Pidcock 200km fuel tank

    refer to posts passim....
Yawn. Considering that he was involved in that big crash to get back into the action seemed a fair performance, no?
Piddock, rider with a limited, 200km fuel tank, somehow finished 6th in the 2021 Worlds RR (268.3kms), and 2nd, by a hair, at the 2021 Amstel Gold (218.6kms)

According to Rob Hatch it was a race that will be talked about for decades. (Just like Jungels's win which it reminded me of)

For some, that tiny chance is not worth the effort when their legs are dead. It's tempting to look at it like game theory, but that overlooks the fact it's hard work and they're exhausted.

If you run an ultramarathon do you make sure you collect every freebie going at the end or do you value taking a rest more?

If he goes on to win a lot more, he could be right.

    If not, probably not.
