    To the OP what were the raised markers of concern? I'm no medical expert, but have seen/heard quite a bit on how the standard tests used can be misleading (there can be 'discordance' between the results of this and other tests). Iirc what you really want is a measure of your LDL particles (LDL-P) as this gives a more accurate sense of whether your cholestoral levels are likely to be problematic. I don't think this is usually given by GPs as I believe it costs more (but I could be wrong).
