2 1/4 big ones to ride around the Isle of Wight with Wiggins?

    Bucket list location?

    Eh? Seriously?

no - you have mixed that up with apirations of grandeur and business sense.

taxi drivers and squaddies play a lot if golf and thats not exactly a high lifestyle.

this is pandering to the new breed of cyclust who have bought inro the lifestyle.

  • Why would I want to ride with a plump retired pro? I bet I’d have to wait for Wiggins if the road goes up… he’s so damn fat these days

Some club members and I did the Isle of Wight for a fraction of that price. :D

    Ouch!
Some retired PROs look after themselves and they are still decent in their 40s and 50s, but Wiggins looks like what? 90kg? Combine that with deteriorated power output and it's very likely he can't keep up going uphill. If in his heydays his FTP was 6 W/kg or thereabout, now it's probably less than 4...
Why would I want to pay to ride with him?

tbh, he doesn't care - he's getting paid, what, £20k? - to ride really slowly with some, admittedly unbearingly boring sycophantic clubbies for 6 hours, have some really nice food, get drunk and boost his own ego.

Going fast is the least of his worries.

    True…
Anyway, it’s probably sour grapes as I am sure if MF paid for me to go, I’d probably have a good time… I like cycling and I like food

Cos if he was still 6 W/kg you wouldn't be able to keep up. 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

A bit unfair saying he doesn't look after himself - most blokes his age would settle for that - admittedly he's probably a couple of stone plus over race weight but my money would still be on Wiggins against us over a lap if the Isle of Wight.

Tbf as well, although the food does lovely, there doesn't seem to be a lot of it.

i reckon you'd get back starving, shower, dress uncomfortably for dinner because you'd have to, few glasses of bubbly, get hungry squiffy and a bit cold as you do, guzzle dinner then have to send someone out for a bag of chips and a few lines.

So you could show him how to ride uphill.

Post a picture of yourself, for comparison...

At 6’3” with that build, he’s probably not far off 100 kg… I am sure he is still fast, on a flat road…

Maybe that's why Isle of Wight was chosen, no major climbs. 😉

  • Or ride round the New Forest with Jens Voigt for roughly £60. Fun day out but no fancy dinner :D

What I have learned today: that Bradley Wiggins is 6'3". Had not realised that.

I suspect that Bradley might be more than capable of putting most (all?) of the BR posters to shame even at his current weight.
David Moncoutie (aged 46) recently rode through the area of France in which we have a house and demolished all of the KOMs, not just by a few seconds but by massive amounts.
These guys are usually in a totally different league to most of us even when they age a bit.
“You may think that; I couldn’t possibly comment!”

Yes, but Wiggins wasn’t a natural climber… he had to get thin beyond belief to be able to stay with the best. He was 70 kg in 2012, he’s now over 90 for sure. At the time his FTP was probably around 6 W/kg, now it’s probably 4 if not less… which is a decent club rider level.
On a track I am sure he can still do some numbers
