Does anyone else find that their tube of rubber cement has always dried out when they go to use it 6 months after your last repairs? I’ve got loads of kits with patches now but without the glue. Anyone know of a source where you can bulk buy the glue by itself?

In my saddle bag I carry 2x tubes plus a repair kit

When I puncture out on the road I always just put a unrepaired tube in. I repair the punctured tube when I get home and replace it on the wheel . That way I don’t find I’ve made a b*lls of repairing it and end up at the side of the road with 2 punctured tubes.

If you have no objection to Amazon then I got these 2-1/2 years ago thinking it was best to get multiple. The first one still hasn't dried out. 😎

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

We have exactly the same problem in our house with Super glue!

You use it so sporadically the next time you want to use it, it is rock hard.

The super glue!!! This isn't a Dick Emery sketch.

Any idea if Evo Stik impact adhesive is any good for repairing tubes? We have this at home in abundance

I find that ultegra inner tubes are just about the right balance between cost and performance.

the thinking person's choice of tubes. very good point well presented.

dura ace tubes are mega but too expensive.

  • At the roadside I always use an un-repaired one because I just want to get home. However, when back home I will repair the punctured one and then fold up the good one (the one that got me home) for the next time. As soon as they have more than three repairs then I'll chuck them.

I always carry two spares AND a puncture repair kit. I've had double flats on a ride before.

I used the large patch cut down to size. Gives a goof repair. I find the pre-cut patches are often too wide for narrow tubes.

Even the older tubes now seem ridiculously priced (£5?) unless Planet X have a deal on. But surely we need those tubes that tell your phone app the pressure is low?

If I'm out my own I do a proper glued repair by the roadside - once you've got the tube out patching it takes 3-4 minutes tops so why fix it there and then?

Because the other clubbies get impatient and complain that you should have gone with Hunt's tubeless setup like they did?
  • Carry a spare tube and some instant patches and then repair the punctured tube properly at home, if I remember 😄
