Pedal Mafia cycling kit - anyone have experience of it? (Featuring Harrison Ford)

Morning BR crew,

just been made aware of this brand, bizarrely because I saw a picture of Harrison Ford riding his bike over here during time off from filming, and the brand on that was quite apparent.

It's an Australian company, but they also have a head office in California I think it was, seem to have been founded in 2014 - items made in Italy I think I read.

I messaged them with a query about sizing, and had a super fast and helpful reply (From Australia I think) and they also alerted me to a uk distributor after I suggested they went with Sigma or Merlin!

Not come across this site/store either: https://www.prologuecycling.co.uk/

Not a ton of reviews out there, and their kit is far from cheap, looks to be strong Assos / Rapha / Isadore money, but the reviews I could find did seem to be positive.

Frustratingly the item I want the uk place does not stock, so if I do want it I'll have to likely go direct and then get hit with VAT and the delightful admin charges. Have messaged prologue to see if they could order it in for me too though.

Just wondered if anyone had tried their products, and had any view on any of the kit at all?

It's one of the PMCC jerseys I am looking at.

Thanks

Well, if they can bung Harrison Ford enough money to ride around in the kit it's going to be pricey. It's just a tee-shirt with some pockets sewn on the back.

If you want to spend that kind of money, I'd stick with Assos.

I have tried Assos, and the cut of the jerseys and pad shape style just doesn't work for my body shape - I do have a stuff rain shell jacket thing, but that's it. The quality of the garments and pads are evident however.
Bibshorts got sent back, and any jerseys I had have been sold on - though for strong money admittedly.

I quite like something a bit different as well.

He doesn't mess about with budget gear, does he! 😉
    Nice bike too.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I'm guessing he might not be short of a bob or two!

What is the bike, I couldn't make it out?

Same. And most of my cycling jerseys, most fellow cyclists would be hard pressed to know where I bought it. Fair if Assos isn't your fit, but you can get something a bit different (and still good quality) without spending Assos money.

There are a lot of brands, happily exploiting the fact that cyclists - for some reason - tend to have cash to burn or are willing to spend large amounts regardless. Add to that, stuff is bloody expensive in Australia anyway and I think you get where Pedal Mafia sits.

Yep agreed - I obvioussly have too many jerseys, my favourite items currently are Isadore, Ale and Dotout - virtually all were redcuced either by 20% or with some of the CRC purchases, about 70%.

Just the jersey in this instance I really like the look of, so am contemplating spending more than I might otherwise do - the ones I mentioned above set me back between £35 and £70 each.

*UK Distributor has said he could order in for me in a couple of weeks.

Agreed on that one it does, on the others it seems to be more subtle and totally different.

Pedal Mafia supply the kit to the club my wife's second cousin's family ride for just south of Perth. They sent my son over one of their jerseys and it is good quality. He found it the most comfortable jersey he owned and it became his favourite.

A small was what you'd expect of a small size wise (ie not Castelli sizing!)

Cheers for that @Dorset_Boy, as I normally wear small Castelli that further backs up my thought that XS in PM would be the right choice.

I don't think I will risk it on the shorts side of things, I'm pretty happy with the shorts and pads I use currently, so see no need to change, and the shorts are even more eye wateringly expensive.

We all know how good Assoss is - what is Pedal Mafia's justification for being the same price?

Links to organised crime innit. But like scallies in Anfield offering to make sure your car doesn’t get nicked/burnt out when you go to watch the football is you pay them twenty quid.

No - nothing at all against small businesses.

you seem to hsve a problem with anyone questioning anything.

    its a genuine question.

what makes their pricing legit when compared to Assoss, arguably the best in the business?

    Far from it.
I've seen the quality and it is good stuff.
They will charge a price that means they can make a sufficient level of profit on the volumes they can get made, at a point at which they will sell their stock.
They've been around a few years at least so presumably are soing something right.
People will often pay a bit more for some exclusivity.
If the designs and quality stack up, good luck to them.

If you aren't prepared to pay that much then fine, that's your choice, but you don't have to do down small businesses all the time, and especially brands that you have never heard of.

I have committed to buying a jersey now, will hold off on the gilet until I see what the fit is like on the jersey.

Don't expect to have it for 2-4 weeks, but will report back on the quality and fit when it arrives.

£130 for a plain white jersey, from a company with a daft sounding name, and having to wait for it weeks to be shipped across the ocean to enjoy "some exclusivity" ?? For equivalent money I can have 3 jerseys by Siroko, more stylish and equally high quality. Or even better, 2 by Lusso, made entirely locally, in Manchester.

I'm not spending £130 on a jersey, any jersey, no matter how good quality it is. Don't think i've spent more than about £70 on one and even that seems expensive to me for what they are, even though they're comfortable, fit well and have lasted.
