Wiki history
The city used to be a major European political centre. From 1563, it was the capital of the Duchy of Savoy, then of the Kingdom of Sardinia ruled by the House of Savoy, and the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1865. Turin is sometimes called "the cradle of Italian liberty" for having been the birthplace and home of notable individuals who contributed to the Risorgimento, such as Cavour. Even though much of its political significance and importance had been lost by World War II, Turin became a major European crossroad for industry, commerce and trade, and is part of the famous "industrial triangle" along with Milan and Genoa. Turin is ranked third in Italy, after Milan and Rome, for economic strength.
Food
The local Piedmontese cuisine is some of the most varied and celebrated in Italy. Piedmont is the region where the Slow Food movement was born, just a few kilometres away in Bra, with many eateries inspired by the Slow Food concept focusing on local, fresh, top quality produce. Salone del Gusto e Terra Madre, a biennial international food fair and convention, is hosted in Turin in the autumn to highlight the importance of producing locally, eating healthily and savouring socially.

Nice intro and analysis of the TT favourites etc with Dan Bigham on GCN0
-
This is torture, lived in Torino for a couple of years and all our favourite haunts still looking wonderful. (Looks through the window today 😭🌧)Old, fat and that's just the bike.0
-
Campenaerts in the hot seat with 9.19, but it was pretty close, so seems unlikely to be a winning time0
-
And beaten by Kluge and Castroviejo. Castroviejo currently in the hotseat.0
-
Sanchez with a puncture and switched to a road bike...0
-
Surely Astana could have stretched to 2 TT bikes per rider?0

It seems that Astana's luck in Giro TTs from last year continues.."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0

You'd think. Especially as you would have thought Sanchez had a non-zero chance of doing well on stage 3 and possibly the pink Jersey.Dorset_Boy said:Surely Astana could have stretched to 2 TT bikes per rider?

Brandle may as well have gone the whole hog and worn white socks...0

-
Brandle into the hot seat by nearly 5s0
-
Vlasov with a good split time"Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0
-
Vlasov into second on the stage, 9.11 - great time0
-
Nibali 19.28, 18s down on the lead - not that bad I don't think0
-
Moscon goes close, 0.89s behind Brandle0
-
Moscon surprisingly good, less than a second off Brandle.
Campenaerts looked very 'amateur triathlete' for one of the pre-race favourites.
Technical analysis is very good and interesting to see the rider gears on the graphics.0 -
Foss takes the lead in 9 dead.0
-
Well now my GCN has stopped streaming. Could just be the internet0
-
Cavagna comes in 5s behind Foss...0
-
Cavagna 5 seconds behind Foss suggesting it was a very good time.0
