Decent jersey

It’s my birthday next Wednesday and my wife is giving me hassle about presents.

All I can think of really is a decent long sleeved jersey for the not too cold mornings. I’d like a decent name if funds stretch in an XL or XXL.

Budget is £160 max.

It's getting warmer now though. Should you not maybe get a summer jersey and maybe matching arm warmers if it is a bit nippy?

I’m not really too sure so I’m more than open to advice.

I bought a chapeau Merino long sleeve Jersey and really like it. It was £100 from Vive Le Velo.

I like Isadore and Isoles. Something different from the standard Rapha/Castelli/Le Col stuff and I've been seriously impressed with the quality of both brands - never had anything from either of them that I didn't like

In no particular order I would have a gander at:
    Ale
    Isadore (as mentioned above)
    Dotout
    Rapha
    Lusso
    Torm

I would also say La Passione, but I think you'll get hit with all those joyous import charges and admin fees now and you can likely foresee what that means for complicated returns, plus most of their gear seems to be emblazoned with "Worth the effort" 🙄🤯🤬

When you say 'decent name' I've assumed you mean quality rather than 'brand position' or some other rank marketing term.

The Ale stuff is v nice, I have an aero top of theirs but tbh I think you have to go very far to beat Assos - much much better than La Passione, that Dopey Millar stuff, Stolen Goat and all that ilk.

Maybe I'm a bit biassed, but at that budget I'd be looking at Rapha.
  • Pactimo jerseys are excellent IMO.

Will keep the chill off, in the next month or so, and will prevent sunburn through summer while helping you to keep cool.

    I have two.

Or something from GodandFamous? Really nice people to deal with - always responded quickly to size etc queries... https://godandfamo.us/collections/jerseys

I have Assos,Castelli and Rapha jerseys. The Assos beat all the others on quality, however I did have a Sportful jersey that got ripped in a crash which fit and function wise was one of the best I’ve had.
Castelli and Rapha seem to have the pockets higher on the back and I find they are a bit of pain to get stuff out of.
As I haven’t had to buy a jersey in years as I tend to get them for birthdays and Christmas I have to accept the odd issue with them. ;)

Jerseys should last for decades, crashes aside.
I still regularly use a Team Once from the mid 90s. I only buy as my shape changes.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I wouldn't be put off from using La Passione - this is from their website:

I’m curious why if you don’t mind elaborating.

Have heard more people rave about them. Not obvious why.

As a jersey, being totally honest it's nothing particularly special vs any other sportswool top.

In my view it just looks ace, and I am a massive poser. And I like the reflective details.

I bought some of their shorts when they were 50% off - it's just rebadged Castelli material and pads at the end of the day.

Thanks had missed that - that does bode well, but I still wonder what happens when you send stuff back, or perhaps they have a UK address now, I know there was talk of that a while back I think.

  • I'd also consider the Le Col Pro long sleeve jersey too..... "if", they have stock of your size, and "if", you can find a kindly person with a £50 off voucher. That would bring a very good jersey down from £135 to £85

Another shout here for Le Col. Not tried their jerseys but shorts are nice and sizes are realistic, which helps.

because he's a patronising nob selling exactly the same stuff as everyone else at far too much so no reason to go to him.

I guess that's a reason for some, but as YB isn't a mate of mine I have no idea if he's ok or not, however I don't buy stuff on the basis of whether the CEO/owner/front man's a 'bell end' or not!

Generally I buy on quality, design and price all of which Le Col get a thumbs up.
