I wonder who the Welsh speaking cycling pundit is - assuming they use one. I watched a football match on S4C and they used John Hartson.

Last year it was young trackie turned, roadie turned retired, (I think) Manon Lloyd.
Her claim to fame is that as a young girl, she used to live next to my sister.
Whether she qualifies as a cycling pundit is questionable.

"Rhodri Gomer will lead the regular Seiclo team, with commentators Wyn Gruffydd, John Hardy and Gareth Rhys Owen being joined by team Ribble Weldtite rider Gruff Lewis, Dewi Owen and brothers, Rheinallt and Peredur ap Gwynedd."

She's a GCN presenter, and gives a good account of herself on the bike as well as off.

I've really enjoyed watching events on S4C in recent years. It's easy to pick out the names of riders and teams, and the interviews tend to be in English anyway. With a map of the stage you can pick out road signs and work out where they are. I found the voices much less tiring than some hysterical commentators. Give it a try!
Also, my OH reckons there should be highlights on Quest, 7pm each day

So basically they don't have anyone qualified to commentate the Giro, but they have to push the Welsh language agenda, is it fair?

Hopefully it sounds as good as the Spanish TV...

Gruff Lewis has been a pro for years and has done quite a bit of commentary. S4C have also done more for terrestrial cycling coverage than BBC, they've provided live coverage of the cyclo cross nationals and national series cyclo cross as well as the Giro and Tour in recent years.

Do you complain that Italian TV does their commentary in Italian too? I would guess the only reason S4C can cover it is because it is in Welsh as other ES / GCN have the English language rights.

If you don't like it fork out for GCN. Ultimately commentary in Welsh (which I don't speak more than a few words) is better than listening to Kirby in English.

    They should speak British.

I see what you did there.

"Brittonic-speaking populations had split into distinct groups: the Welsh in Wales, the Cornish in Cornwall, the Bretons in Brittany, the Cumbrians of the Hen Ogledd ("Old North") in southern Scotland and northern England, and the remnants of the Pictish people in northern Scotland. Common Brittonic developed into the distinct Brittonic languages: Welsh, Cumbric, Cornish and Breton."
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Probably wants it in the local dialect...

This seems an appropriate place to mention Dave Brailsford's cameo appearance in Pobl Y Cwm

Did he have to rehearse that a lot or is he...not a good actor

(I know it's not technically acting, but in many ways, it is...)

Any reason why the rest days are Tuesdays this year?

In 2018 they began in Israel on the Friday and had 3 rest days (Monday / Tuesday / Tuesday)? Not sure if they planned to do the same last year before the Hungarian start was canned.

10 days days straight (even if it starts with an 8km TT) is a big stint.

They were supposed to transfer to Sicily after Hungary. But they just started in Sicily instead

Not sure but he mentioned on his podcast he was working for the race in some broadcast-related role with Matt Stephens. Suspect it's the world feed*

(*though what the world feed is has always been a bit of a mystery to me. Obviously, it's the feed that goes to the world but... who is that exactly?)

I guess it will be English speaking countries other than here in the UK.

It will be his commentary RCS use in highlights packages etc

Isn't that Kirby's usual gig hence why we are deprived of his dulcet tones and measured commentary for the Giro and other RCS events?

Anyone else get the Cycling Podcast Giro d'Italia wine box?

Just trying to work out which wine relates to which stage now 😆

Check the stage thread. Red for the start, white for the finish.

    Yeah, for this stage though?

The box has 6 different wines in it, but I'm going to have to listen through the podcast to see which relates to which stage...

This is what was in the box:

Got some friends coming round later and we are going to go through them anyway.
