froome also said the frameset was great but discs, nah, not so much so.ibr17xvii said:
Undoubtedly so (although I still can't believe you admit someone knows more than you) but I also suspect CF hasn't ridden them much in the wet training in Southern California over the winter.MattFalle said:Also thats not really what Chris Froome says and I suspect he, much like I, know and have experienced a bit more than you.
Alex Dowsett also says the Factor is the best bike he's ever ridden so who's right?
So Froome or you - who's right? You could discuss this on your club ride tomorrow.
" Hey guys, I reckon I'm better than Froome - waddya say?".The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

Are you encouraging me to break lockdown rules? I'll give my Ultegra groupset & Hunt wheels a good clean over the weekend & save them to show off to my clubbie mates in the summer.
As you conveniently ignored it I'll repeat (as you like to do) Froome hasn't ridden them in the wet. I'm not saying he is right or wrong, I'm saying he's not ridden them where they perform best IMHO.
Either way your appearance on the same threads spouting the same nonsense is getting boring.0 -
Since he has just compared his cycling experience as similar to Chris Froome's, maybe you should bow to his superior `knowledge`.1

I take it all back - wise, wise choices. You're like the Jacques Cousteau of cycling. Your club must be proud to have you.
So Froome has never ridden his bicycle in the wet? Well he's stuffed then the first race it gets moist. "Right, gents, its wet today but the parcours is perfect for us. We've pumped millions into this team and trained all year for this. Lets do it!"
Chris pipes up: "Errhm, boss, like, I haven't ridden my bike in the rain yet our la"
DS"oh. Never thought of that".
And you know more than him?

MF, where does your hatred of clubbies stem from? Are you being dropped by club riders on your weekly Sunday ride?
Surely you must know that even Froome started his early cycling in a club and virtually every other pro.1 -
generally its because 98% of them are bell ends.masjer said:MF, where does your hatred of clubbies stem from? Are you being dropped by club riders on your weekly Sunday ride?

And you know more than him?
He's unlikely to have ridden discs in the wet training in Southern California as I posted before. Keep up.
Point me to where I said I know more than him?
Also point me to where you've answered about how much you've ridden discs? You're obviously very knowledgeable on the subject so I'm guessing it's a lot?0 -
So ypu know his exact winter training schedule?
Blimey - are you Chris Froome? Its now all starting to come together.
Cx bike has discs but as you don't need them on the road after riding that bike a few friends' bikes with discs reaffirmed that I felt no need to burden my life with such tripperies and follies so stuck with the stuff that they won the Tour on and Froome - or is it you? - says us better.
Why would you down grade for the sake of fashion and marketing? Its like binning a young Diana Rigg for Dualipa. Why would you?

Oh dear my cover is blown..............
Anyway think I'll keep the Factor in the garage today & ride my best bike with Ultegra groupset, Hunt wheels & discs.

Sounds a winner, Chris. Crack on. Point out a pot hole or oncoming car for us.ibr17xvii said:

ah, the difference is he actually gets paid to ride around for a living and gets his matching clothes and bike for nothing whereas clubbies pretend to others less knowledgeable that they get paid to ride around whilst paying heinous amounts for their awful designed badly fitting clothes and their bicycles bought from people who pretend to be their friends in order to sell them over priced bicycles.veronese68 said:

Hi All,
Thanks for all the suggestions so far.
To clarify a few things -
I'm riding around the neighborhood due to covid restrictions. I intend to resume our fortnightly Gran Fondo rides around the country during late spring/summer, by when we are (optimistically) hoping for some normalcy in our life.
I'm keen to retain the disc setup as I had few nervous moments while commuting to work and in few weekend rides (having said that, I resumed cycling about 5 years back on a Hybrid with discs and naturally upgraded to this bike with discs as well).
And the wheels alone weigh about ~2.5kgs on this bike. Merlin's published weight was about 10kg without pedals, bottle cages for 54 size. Mine is 56 and have the normal commuter pedals (will swap them with SPDs when "stay local" ends)
So looks like, I'll hunt around for lighter wheels and parts given the shortage of bike supply. But the frame has QR with 135mm spacing at the rear. Would this be a problem while swapping the wheels? Please let me know your thoughts

Hi All,
Thanks for all your suggestions so far.
To clarify few things -
1. I'm riding around my neighborhood (alone) due to covid restrictions and lockdown. I intend to resume our fornightly Gran Fondo rides by late Spring/early summer, when we are hoping for some normalcy to be restored in our lives.
2. I am keen to retain the disc brakes, as I had quite a few horrifying stops/moments during commutes and weekend rides. Having said that I resumed cycling about 5 years back on a Hybrid with discs and naturally upgraded to this bike with similar brakes as well.
3. The wheelset itself weighs about ~2.5kg on its own, let alone the stiff aluminium frames etc. Merlin's published size was about 10kg for 54 size without bottle cages, pedals. Mine is size 56 and hence estimating to be about 11kgs.
so finally it looks like I may upgrade to lighter wheels given the shortage of bike supplies. But would the QR and 135mm rear spacing limit my choices?
Please let me know your thoughts.
