Didn't really see why the SA president had to barge his way in to the presentation and lift the trophy second. You're not Mandela mate, fack off out of it.

It's all been downhill as a spectator sport since the quarterfinals.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

The BBC report calls it an epic final. Epic flop more like.

Extremely tense if you cared about the result, tedious if neutral.

  • Was in half a mind as to whether to watch it, especially once I saw it was raining. Wish I hadn't bothered.

They seem to always equate close games with good games.

The tournament was not the best advert for the game.

Appreciate I am not a big fan and I missed some really good matches but tuned into about 6 games, 4 were blowouts and then this final and the England semi which was decided under a pile of bodies so no one could see.

I maintain the last 10 when it was 14 v 14 was brilliant!

    The 70 mins before though...
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

  • God, the Kiwi press are sore losers. All of them wanging on about how it was a sad day for rugby that they didn't win and SA don't actually play any rugby. They genuinely believe they have a divine right to win every World Cup. Usual blaming the ref/TMO/bunker review as well.
  • So the final wasn’t one for the purists?

    It was a typical final...

    + rain

+ a team that likes to keep it tight and overpower

+ the other team weren't quite on top form
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

  • It also highlighted that pragmatism wins the world cup on most occasions. France and Ireland play brilliant multi phase rugby but history says that by and large that does not get you to finals.

There is a reason England are the successful NH side at WC's, they are ugly but effective.

Not sure about that, it was tense and exciting but didn’t have the quality to be brilliant.

^^ I do think it's perhaps, not as surprising as we think that of the 6 or 7 teams that looked like they could have won it 2 years or so ago when it was impossible to tell between them all, the top 3 ended up being the 3 teams with the most experience of the final...

(Aus excepted perhaps but there's bigger problems there)

Eddie Jones doing a legger with a few quid (I imagine) on his way to the land of the rising yen?
  • As a neutral, I really enjoyed last night’s match as the standard of rugby was far superior to the dross served up weekly by the Welsh regions.
I would imagine that DB was particularly pleased by Bath’s second half display.

Best 25 minutes after HT from Bath for some time.
Bath's two big signings, Finn and Thomas du Toit are worth every penny. Finn is a joy to watch.

What was great was that both sides came to play, with the first mid-field box kick not being seen until about 60 minutes.

And we were treated to classic Jonny May - gets the ball on the RH touch kine, runs all the way across the pitch making no ground, then gets nailed and gives away the penalty!

Mind you, Carley was awful in the first half, missing so many obvious things.

I'd imagine it was a really good watch for a neutral.

Yes, I had a good laugh at Jonny May’s touch line to touch line run too!
He must lead every league imaginable in sideways yards gained. :D

As predicted, Welsh regions currently 0-3 and heading for the second clean sweep of loses, already this season. (Dragons have Leinster to play.)

Not so good this week, too many errors in the oppo 22 and then no momentum able to be built in the second half, but a win is a win!

Bath had an absolutely golden period, mid first half, but Bristol wouldn't go away.
I enjoyed it again, as it was a bit of a nail biter.
Once again, wee weeing down on the mostly open to the elements, Rec.

I know the weather isn’t great but dear me, Leicester vs Northampton makes for truly awful viewing.
As bad as anything I’ve seen in the URC.

Totally agree. Dreadful game. So many reset scrums, and so many dropped balls. Neither side able to build anything.
Oh, and Karl Dickson is reffing.......

And Dickson proves my point. Utter incompentence and arrogance to make that call from 20m back.
And he was wrong - deffo Saints try.

    Absolutely.
A shocker of a decision. Saints we’re definitely on the end of some questionable calls.

Quins and Saracens managing to play some decent rugby too.

RIP JPR Williams, one of the true greats of the game. I just missed out on enjoying seeing him play. Surprised he was only 74.

Too young.Though I preferred Andy Irvine as a 15, JPR was probably the better all round player, and a real tough guy. A legend of the (almost) all conquoring Welsh side of the early 70s.

I remember when he had that Kiwi stud through the cheek. Probably stiched it back up himself!

Should have seen him play in the 5 nations in his prime but somehow the ground was full with thousands of ticket holders still outside. 🤬 R.I.P.

He was the surgeon for my aunt, who has cerebral palsy, when she was having her legs sorted back in the late 70s.

Did he play in the 1977 Lions vs Baabaas game at Twickenham - my first ever live game!

Never realised he was a surgeon too. Mind you, as the game was amateur then, not surprised he needed a 'proper' profession.

I had Alastair Hignell as a history teacher, supplementing his income from cricket (Gloucestershire) and rugby (Bristol & England). A bit scary now to realise he was (is) only nine years older than me, haha!
