As this has been confirmed by Ringo Starr, I guess it's probably true.

Avril Lavigne died and was replaced by a lookalike named Melissa in 2003.

This is an amazing conspiracy theory - first I've heard of it. Interested where I was on those two occasions and impressed by how good my Aussie mates are at acting. Hat to them.
