Great pic hop. I’m trying to be nosey, I can make out the exercise machine jobby but not much else.
That's where we keep Mrs H³ for her work. It is air-conditioned/heated, insulated, ethernet cabled internet. It's a lovely place to sit in August especially.
What do you charge rent wise? Meals included?
She paid. It's "hers". She tends to order in her lunch, while I have a home made sandwich, or scrambled eggs, or hit the smack and crack.

I paid for the kitchen and the rest of the refurb, but that's "ours".

Dinner I make, firstly because I can cook, secondly because she is often busy 16:00 to 21:00 due to West Coast US. Whereas I'm busy 7:30 to midday, due to Tokyo.

    Mmm. Smack 'n' crack.
Is it soundproofed as well? :p

Sod the early starts with Tokyo, I just block out my diary every morning 'till 9am. Surprised they haven't twigged by now, but they're used to working late anyway and I'm not very good with early mornings.
I'm better with early mornings! They appreciate it. Though in this, our annual global conference season, a lot of the expats here are doing midnight to 6 a.m., then logging back on for a uk day at midday.

I have to say, I'm getting used to being "Ben-san". I'm getting close to being offended when the family don't add the honorific. Started doing duolingo Japanese lessons even.

I don’t have many bottom pics with clothes on but if we can get the likes up I might be able to sneak something.

I had unagi nigiri, tuna and salmon sashimi, chicken gyoza and some miso.

Mrs hopkin had burger and chips West coast stylee?
Isn't unagi that self defence thing that Ross did in Friends?

Possibly. One of my achievements is to have never watched a single episode. Unlike my wife, who has an encyclopedic knowledge.

Would have been neat, but she had Chinese style roast duck, pak choi and rice.

On balance, I prefer a Japanese boss. I respond much better to a polite suggestion and a nudge, than a bollocking. We just lost our head of accounting. She could not understand the underlying subtext and nuance, and the fact that an oblique and polite suggestion actually meant "do what I say, or else". She was also loud, large, and quite touchy-feely. You could see the Japanese guys cringe at what they saw as boorish and insensitive behaviour.

Also, our current CFO is a) not a CFO, but a risk guy, and b) an unreconstructed misogynist and Japanese supremacist. She was appointed by the previous CFO, who was much more Western in outlook.

I am becoming more skilled in nemawashi, deference to older guys, silence, consensus, constant communication and sharing. I'm not sure it's the best way to do business, but it's the way to gain trust and respect. To me it's fascinating, decision making is like a game of chess. There's an understanding that there's a need to adapt among the younger (my age) guys, which they share with the western department heads, but the senior management are 10-15 years older and still traditional.

In my first week, I was in a meeting with my boss and the CFO, when a guy wandered in, sat down, closed his eyes, and appeared to go to sleep. I found out afterwards he had come into the wrong room, and instead of losing face by admitting it, he just "ostriched" it out. Bizarre. Can't wait for my first trip to Japan.

Lavverly sunset an hour or so ago.

The joys of having a UK boss for me.

Boss and rest of the main board know/trust me well enough that bollockings don't happen. Most of the Tokyo lot I deal with treat me as an equal because they need me to help them with international stuff. I leave the cr@p with all the Tokyo committees to our board, makes life easier.

Probably helps that we are pretty European: there are almost non senior Japanese guys over here apart from one token board director who does sweet FA. Our EMEA operation is more like a FTSE 250 with some weird ground rules.

  • Just arrived back at my place having decided that I can't live on a full-time basis with the OH. Her narcissistic tendencies are really getting me down.

Hopefully, a few nights on her own might make her realise just what we've got together, but her constant sniping, utter selfishness, procrastination and needless buying of sh*te has tipped me over the edge.

I'm not a doormat and won't put up with her passive aggressiveness anymore.

Add in all the mental baggage she carries around with her and I'm better off without her in my life, for now, at this extremely busy period of the year.

    FFS......

As an aside from affaires de la coeur, anyone got any links to the above mentioned pictures? MF has to hang with the general population today so at least give him something to peruse and contemplate....

Cargo dude - bin it off. If you're feeling like that now its likely that it isn't goung to change and it'll only be a cyclical cycle of tiring arguments and emotional exhaustion.

Couch, pork scratchings, vin rouge and an endless loop of TDNFNATN and TDKBOMB and all will be well in the world.
