I think a 1970s headset has done well and warrants replacing.

    How old ARE you?

I have to admit to being a little embarrassed. I didn't even count the tyres I found!
    Insert bike here:
  • If we are talking new and unused I keep the usual; chains, cassettes, tubes, tires etc. I recently bit the bullet and purchased a spare RD, FD & shifters but that was more to do with my irrational fear that at any point Sram mechanical could become obsolete, replaced in a tidal wave of overpriced AXS parts!!

If we are counting used parts with some mileage left in them, that pretty much triples my inventory!

I sold a lot of stuff when I thought I was moving out to a house without a garage including four bikes and I still have seven bikes, five additional wheel sets all fitted with tyres, discs QR etc, I have enough spares minus frame to build at least two complete bikes and spares of everything including tools, more than most small bike shops would carry. I don’t swap anything over between bikes all are completely ready to go for all conditions, pumps, saddle bags, lights, computer and sensors etc.

I’ve filled my bike travel boxes with spare part worn tyres of all types and sizes, things like inner tubes co2 are always bought in bulk.

I was kidding myself if I thought I could have moved to a house without a garage.

    Well....

Four or five framesets, 2 unused Ultegra 11 speed gruppos, one unused 105 11 speed jobs, a few pairs of shifters (Record, Dura Ace, some random ones), unused carbon cranks, unused normal cranks, 4 sets of perfect wheels, a few sets of used wheels, boxes of used 'bars, cranks, pedals, stems, saddles, posts, tubes, a few tubs, b/bs, headsets, forks, shed loads of the stuff packed into a loft and a couple of sheds.

Too much of the junk tbh but as its tucked away I don't notice it.

    And 6 fully working bikes.

    tutto bene, gracie.

Slow 2020 watching the world go round, but on the good side I think only 1 personal I know of was affected by COVID so a bit weird trying to be sensible when everything seemed to be happening all around my F+F but not TO anyone. Plus side wife bought a business. Has full rights to wear a labcoat (I even found one in an outbuilding we were clearing out) but refuses to.

2021 much more interesting. New job and new rugrat en route.

Fine. Get a wet bum, wet feet, spray in your face and wear your winter bike out faster then. See if I care. You will look a bit cooler than I do for the first 10 minutes or so though.

Fantastic mews re rugrat/job - many, many congrats all round. I understand Matt is a simply spiffing name for new ones. Its going to be the new Harry in a couple of years so jump in ahead of the masses.

Agree re Covid - fortunate not to have had anyone actually have it - a couple of possibles & isolations - but no positives, so fingers crossed it stays thay way until I get started sticking needles in people.

Top stuff re Mrs SB's job as well - and lab coats to boot as well. Just plant the seed that lab coats are practical, warm and safe and let it germinate until, voila, lab coats a go-go.

Just imagine that burd frpm the Queen's Gambit in a lab coat. Now ypu're talking..... #TDBFTQG

I guess i can understand 1 unused groupset (a project you haven't started yet), but 3 and 2 of them the same?

1 from the S3 that broke (from what the shop said Ultegra 8000 has a propensity for breaking for some reason) - everything sent back and replaced and now sitting in a box as its been replaced by Red and, tbh, I don't particularly like Ultegra so I've no rush to use it.

1 Ultegra I received in payment of sourcing a frameset and building up a bike for a friend but nothing to put it on and, tbh, I don't particularly like Ultegra so I've no rush to use it.

105 bought to build up the Soloist as a hacker/winter bike but sitting in the box as its cold. I'm only using it as its dirt cheap and I don't mind smashing it up when I fall off.

There has to be a solution. I have one by the front door in a cupboard next to the washing machine, one in the bedroom closet where the clothes I have never bought should be, three in a shed and one in Devon. Well, two in Devon but one has metal fatigue.

Can't you store another bike somewhere in another county?

That's impressive. My one is free-roaming but I could maybe manage more if I could convince her to stay put.

Mmm. I guess my post was open to a range of interpretations.
  • Thats not hoarding ugo. If i tried to write all the spare kit i have my fingers would hurt. Got everything to build a few bikes.

But you run a bike shop.
No i mean just my personal stuff.

I find that somewhat reassuring, if a guy that runs a bike shop hasn't got a serious stash for himself what would it say about the rest of us?
