You can't accuse Roglic of ever attacking too early...

Was that Gaudu zipping up his jersey for the finish with 3kms to go? 🤣🤣🤣

    Yup! 😎

That was quite possibly the worst mountain stage of any GT I've watched. I blame tomorrow's stage, even the top riders are scared of it and desperate to avoid using unnecessary energy before it.

It might just be me but I can't get into this race. So far I've been bored stiff.

Even taking the lethargic peloton pace* into account, the young Sunweb duo (Storer and Donovan) rode very well to get 3rd/4th. Thank goodness for race numbers, because I for one couldn't tell their faces apart during the race.

[* Probably to be expected, given the first-week terrain and what's to come tomorrow]

What a waste of a stage.

Might as well as just drove the buses straight to the start for tomorrow.

At least everyone was attacking to gain time.

Here’s an idea, 20km flat section, 10km steep climb. End of stage, job done. At least that way people would only waste an hour of their lives watching.

That was pretty dire. Even Rog couldn't summon the enthusiasm for his usual sprint finish.
  • Folks were warned that it would be like this.
Everybody afraid to make an effort today, in case they blow up on the Angliru tomorrow.

It will still have had an effect on some, which will cost them when those silly gradients bite.

They were closing quite quickly around 2k from the finish but either ran of legs or time. Very promising rides

The thing is even tomorrow there are four climbs before the last climb.

Break will go, peloton will ride easy up to the last climb. Pace will start to increase on the last climb and we might have some attacks a few km’s from the finish.

Skip the first 4 climbs, 30/40km ride straight to the final climb. Think I’ll tune in for the last 30 mins or so tomorrow.

What was the Movistar DS doing today? Was Soler going for the stage or to get back time on GC? Because he knackered himself out doing the latter, but then lost loads of time fannying around for the first. A decent DS would've told him to concentrate on one objective and ride accordingly.

Movistar at this stage are more art than sport, following in the Spanish surrealist and modernist movements of Dali, Gaudi, Miro and Bunuel. By pursuing the team competition via the medium of individual efforts they are expressing a philosophy for the 21st Century, objectivism meeting socialism.

    That would've made sense.

If there is one potential chink in Roglic's armour, it's his ability on steep, long climbs. He's fairly unproven, I think the only one of the super steep, super long climbs he's done is the Mortirolo and Nibali and Carapaz took substantial time out of him on that. It wasn't a summit finish either, so they held back for the ride up to Ponte di Legno.

Did alright on the top of that new climb in the tour

Was a tad tame by 2020 standards .

Should have done the stages opposite way round

Yeah, heard Carlton do it for the first time a few days ago. I think he did it off the cuff and even said "that's the first time I've used that but it won't be the last". He has certainly kept to his word

I had a worrying moment reading this, thinking that Waiting of Godot was written by Samuel Bennett. I thought that can't be right can it? I had to google.

I am sure that was disappointing if you weren’t engrossed in the scenery as I was. Strange route for stage 12.
Agree may have been better if stages reversed as they were obviously too concerned about Angliru.
Best commentary was from Dan - disappointed when KC came back from lunch
