Froome dropped on the first climb.

Sosa is the bigger problem, I assume his sole purpose in the team would be to ride as last man for Carapaz on a day like this.

Soler has taken 1'30" and nearly on the break. Puts him to within about 2 min of GC

Soler now safely in the break with a team mate and they have picked their pace up since he got there. Now has a lead of nearly 2'20" from the Ineos / Visma led group. Wurf seems to have been on the front for ever and Froome not far behind. The red jersey group is still very large so obviously not making much effort yet.

Was that Wellens taking it cross?

Some interesting lines being chosen on that corner. Not sure the grass is the best route.

Not Wellens, he's been dropped. Two riders somehow did the same thing on one of the few bends where they'll have ever got away with it with no serious mishaps.

Not sure who lead it, but Nickolas Eg was at the back and he went off road as well

Nice descent this. Wide, sweeping bends. Would love to get a chance to do that with a closed road.

There's a touch of the Cadel Evans about Roglic when he climbs out of the saddle, isn't there? *shudder*

Down to around 40 in the leaders group at a guess. Just attrition so far and they're only closing very slowly on the break. 500m left on the penultimate climb. Froome still up near the front and looking stronger but riding out of the saddle more than he would do normally. 33km to go

Looks like roglic has 5 Jumbos with him.
  • Every day Kirby states that the race is ahead of the fastest schedule and every day the races finishes according to the published schedules.

Easy to see why Wellens and de Gendt are such good mates: they share the same book of daft tactics.

What are UAE up to? Have they sneaked Pogacar into the race?

Is it me or is Kirby especially bad today, even by his own terrible standards? It's like someone told him that there cannot be one second of dead air today.

I consider Richie Benaud to be the greatest sports commentator ever due to knowing when 1 word was more effective than 100. Also he knew when to keep quiet and let the pictures do the talking.
    Kirby is the anti Benaud.

I have ambient sound only on my feed, not missing Kirby at all. Did get a 5 mins sesh of Sean K but that stopped again. Quite pleasant not to have all the nonstop banality. Plus check PCS website for who is in break etc.

Even a power cut can't shut Kirby up...

  • Impressive work by the Sunweb pair to have avoided doing a tap all this time. Superior sitting on.

Chaves dropped early. He doesn't have 3 weeks in him any more.

Enjoying the gorgeous gorges, ddraver? They've got some fancy geology over there.

Soler goes, Martin tries to chase, Gaudu counters and him and Soler are away

Carapaz isolated. Ineos have sent the dregs to this race.

Roglic still has 4 Jumbos. Guy on the front of Roglic's train has been there all the way up the climb, riding everyone else's domestiques off the track.

Looks like Soler and Gaudu have the stage between them, plus a considerable GC gain and bonuses (which for Soler at least is a big win).

It's pretty much l'Angliru or bust for the GC guys in the peloton (unless you're Rog).

Was that Gaudu zipping up his jersey for the finish with 3kms to go? 🤣🤣🤣
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.
