Nizzolo’s green skinsuit left nothing to the imagination in the arse-crack dept! Once seen, can’t be unseen.

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Hope Michael Woods is okay. He looked in a fair amount of distress there.

    What happened?

No idea. They cut to him after the crash. He was moving his arm but looked in a bad way. Seemed to be telling the people on the scene not to move him.

Anyhow, it was a great finish. Jan Tratnik caught 100 metres from the line.
Bonifazio by far the best sprint there.

Now we wait to see if stage 6 is a runner or not.
Given the classics season just got canned, I figure half the peloton will quit now in any case.

Man this race has a weird vibe now.

Shows how much the context of what’s going on impacts on how a race feels watching it.

Woods broken leg seems a high cost. I think the laissez faire attitude of us all heading to the sun has been truncated just south of Lyon. At least we crossed the Rhone Might be a while before the simple pleasures of stability/normality returns A bit like board paddling out to a tsunami

Van Garderen had bailed on his teammate and decided to go home because of Trump's travel ban.

Especially lightweight as the ban doesn't apply to US citizens.

In hindsight it might well be that the states was the worst place to deal with it.

    Final stage cancelled.

which is strange as the stage before ends just outside Nice. They are probably all staying there anyway

More people are likely to congregate for a stage finish in the city.

    Not quite.
109 riders took today's start. The race is on.

Also we need to bare in mind that some years the numbers that finish can be pretty low.
For instance, just two editions ago there were only 77 finishers.

Meanwhile, at the only game in town, Bardet, Pedersen, Anacona, Kung, Gougeard, Edet and Perez now lead the peloton by 1:30

Sunweb extremely active, sending a whole host of guys up the road in pursuit

Group ahead has split up into Bardet and Edet up ahead, with the remainers except for , Anacona and Edet giving up, now under impulse of a subweb rider (can't see who, I think that guy who won the TT) who has bridged from the peloton

Andersen is the rider from sunweb and he joined bardet and edet and has been driving it hard.

Not much use as Asgreed and Tim de Clerq are chasing hard.

    gap down to 23 seconds.

    Hitting the penultimate climb.

Andersen drops bardet and edet at 15km to go. Gap still at 20 seconds. Jungels joins the chase.

Nibali attacks out of the group. Looks like Benoot follows (who presumably won't take over as his teammate is down the road).

Benoot drops Nibali and bridges over to Andersen and goes over the top and the other favourites follow.

Meanwhile Alaphilippe jumps out of the peloton.

Benoot drops Andersen and is now solo. with a small group of 7 or 8 behind (all favourites it seems).

Not very organised so Nibali giving it some impetus.
