    Ray Clemence.
Won every club honour going and would have won a shed load more caps if he hadn't been rotated with Shilton

    Des O Gonner

Always remember the Russ Abbott sketch taking the wee wee out of Des (probably the only decent Russ abbott sketch ever). Bloke on a train pulls out a Des O'Connor album when asked by the ticket inspector to show his ticket. This is clearly not good enough and the voice over says 'Get a ticket, not a criminal record'.

    Des - Short for Desperate.

Although to give DOC credit, he laughed with them and I have read that he went as far as to suggest some of the jokes.

Maybe not a celebrity except in the weird and insular world of climbing, but Hamish MacInnes - a true legend in many ways - has made his final ascent

He did it in an era when defenders were trying to injure him every week. What a player.

To win a World Cup almost single handedly (pun intended) is saying something. Even Messi hasn't come close to matching his achievements. Especially so given the tackling.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I first read about his demiise on here, immediately thought I bet his ticker gave out. Presumably there has been research done on heavy use of the Columbian marching powder and heart attacks at a comparatively young age.

I'm not too bothered either way...

He was a fat c*** as well, which may have contributed.

    First Hamish, now Doug.

It has to be said that they were in a minority in their circle (i.e. Himalayan mountaineers who came to prominence in the 60s and 70s) in that they survived to old age.

    They were my teenage heroes.
