The wind, while cross-tail, is only 12kph which is not enough according to the Naesen Echelon Guidelines*

*According to Oliver Naesen the wind speed needed for echelons is
    25-30kph in the Tour
    20kph in a Belgium
    15kph in Qatar

Great helo-pass over Cordes-sur-Ciel there (amazing medieval bastide, if you're ever in the area).

A lot of the stage is exposed to that tail/crosswind, but the last 30kms it's into their chops.

and what direction is preferable, for forming them - a 90-degree cross-wind or a cross-headwind?

    ah really, why's that?

Higher speeds of the peloton increases the relative wind speed.

OK in the same way that any breakaway tends to benefit from a tailwind more than the chasing peloton?

Hmmm, depends how you're measuring it though. Is it Cross/tail relative to the road (true wind direction) or to the rider moving at 50kph (apparent wind).

If it's true wind direction then the apparent wind direction would move forward making the apparent wind direction closer to perpendicular to the riders velocity and so even more of a cross wind.

    (done a bit of sailing)

Both Pippa York and Brian Smith discussing the Bennett debacle and expressing completely opposite viewpoints.
According to York no problem losing the time as in the mountains he's be expected to be on the front. (Ineos?)
Smith reckons it was a complete waste of another card to play.

yorks right there. Bennetts good, but won't be there at the end of any of the tough stages.

Brian's point was if you have someone who is fourth in the GC they have to be covered by the other teams riders (zapping their energy).

Any idea what they use for onboard footage and what activates it? Surely they aren't carrying enough battery power for a full stage.

Don't they just wire it into the battery for the motor in the seat post ;-) ?

With the UCI limit they could probably use a pretty high mAh capacity li-ion battery.

That would be a cracking story if it came out it was used at any point in a GT.

I was just thinking, Maxime Monfort, he must be old now, he's been around for ages, went to google and learned he was in fact younger than me...
