Have noticed Sven Nys doubling up on the evening discussion table progs.
He was making an interesting point regarding (wait for it, this is so unexpected) the steep gradients on the sand/gravel in yesterday's finale.
Making the point that Teuns' much stiller upper body and smoother style would have materially helped him vs Ciccone who was bouncing around a lot more and subsequently was visibly spinning his rear wheel more.0 -
A little bit of echelon action has Dan Martin (again) and Wout van Aert out the back."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0

Quintana too! 40 seconds behind.
So everybody slows down. Meh."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Dan Martin and Quintana caught sleeping."If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0

He was over hyped at the start of his career and never kicked on. The hype seems to have made him unwilling to work hard, instead favouring looking cool and calm on the bike over riding quicker."Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0 -

I’m a massive fan of ef and Cannondale. I agree 100% and just don’t get why people are surprised when he gets dropped or underperforms.
Woods on the other hand seems to be the real deal. Uran is good, perhaps the best but I just don’t see him as a winner.0 -

I meant more on the stage rather than Teejay being well his usual disappointing self.Correlation is not causation.0 -

He had a bad crash exiting a roundabout when all was tranquillo.

Avondetappe has an aerodynamicist as guest to discuss exactly this moto issue.
Will report back.
Your correspondent,

Groenewegen really was badly positioned for most of that run in but his sprint boxed cadel in and that was the difference, beyond his legs which looked good.0

On the slow mo replay it’s clear Ewan’s backwheel bounces a lot up off the road in the final 20m.
A suggestion that he’s so far forward on the bike he loses rear traction pretty fast..!0 -
Motos.
Depends on speed but at 50kph with the moto at 10m they save roughly 5s per km.
At 5m it’s 12-15 seconds.
Moto alongside is actually a disadvantage.
Moto within 5m from behind is also a small advantage.0 -
Dekker points out with a small video on how many motos there were in front of Alaphilippe during his solo win.
