    Talking up the wind

  • Fair play to Tony Martin bringing 200 riders along for his training ride.

Don't really understand why Jumbo-Visma would effectively sacrifice Martin to such an innocuous break.
Sure they want to deliver Groenwegen but they could have let it go out further on a stage of this length.
Plus, he's not the only sprinter there - why are J-V so much more bothered than D-Quickstep, Bora-H, Lotto-S?

Some gaps in the tail of the peloton, but I think the wind is a little too side on and not enough cross-tail.

Would have to go very fast to blow it up.

I like the use of what appears to be a cycle path at 1.7km to go.

    Anyway a stage suitable vache...

Sporza interviewed Kasper Asgreen before the start. Seems to be quite chipper about his condition.

he was talking about someone elses aero fairing earlier too. It's a quiet day, filling 4 hours of nothing is clearly difficult. but seriously......

    Always Sunny! whoooop
  • A question re. breaks: I know teams will say to certain riders, we want you to try and get in the break tomorrow. But do DS's ever make a pact and organise a break with a couple of other teams who have punchy riders and aren't interested in a bunch sprint? Like, 'We'll put in Skujins if you put in Gallopin and they put in Kung'?

There can be a lot of mobile phone conversations .but deals evolve more often than pre ordained on the road. The riders are involved too. Politicky. The detail to and fro you describing a day before a stage is probably very rare . May have occurred at one time or the other .

I am hoping the over awareness neutralises the danger

Calamity Jane doesn't fancy that pinch point with an entire peloton, attacks from 11km to see if he can get through it alone.
