SPDs on a road bike?

  • I have had SPD's on my mountain bike for years and had no problems with MTB shoes. On my road bike I just couldn't get on with Look Keo pedals - forever spinning the pedal round hoping it will stop the right way up to clip in. Also gave me terrible knee pain. My mates had no trouble but for me it was hopeless. I went back to M520 SPD's with SH71 cleats with rubber pontoons either side of cleat providing safe walking. They worked great and I have stuck with this for the last 10 years. But now Shimano have discontinued this cleat. Briefly Wellgo started making them but then stopped abruptly so I have been scouring eBay and bought my current pair and replacement new old stock from the states. They seem to have replaced this great cleat with a plastic plate with rubber buffers that fall off on the first ride- why?
