cycling and the testicles (only one ball)

Weird title I know.

I'm wondering if anyone else has a similar similar situation, as in only one testicle, I lost my right in 2016 due to cancer , whilst I cycle regular I don't really do big miles anymore or anything that maintains my fitness.

Problem is comfort, I really struggle and I dont know if its due to only having one and causing an imbalance in that area or something else. Constantly feel like I'm getting strangled down there which means I can't keep stable or put the power down.

Any advice or insight would be much helpful thanks.

You could get a saddle that holds most of weight on sitbones. Takes getting used to, but does the job - I use this

Why not go to a bike shop that specialises in saddle fit, like some of the Fizik dealers who have sample saddles. get them to fit them on a trainer or bike fit and try until you find a saddle or combination of saddle and bike fit that feels right?

Lance was saying in his podcast that he used to like the saddle slightly rotated to one side - he didn't specifically mention it being related to having one ball but it costs nothing for you to give it a go!

He might well be the chap to ask, being by far the most famous cyclist in your position.

Is it even possible to ask him? I wouldn't think he's be easily contactable?

I'm trying to try a tilted saddle, having always been told to have as flat as possible, but having to bear in mind my different position to the norm.

    tweet him?

I think the suggestion was a sideways rotate - not forwards/back tilt - not sure how you rotate a saddle anyway - don't think my seatpost top joint allows for that.

Well, it does depend on you having an old fashioned round seatpost instead of an aero one.

Ah - rotate around - so the line isn't aligned with the bike - I thought you meant make one side higher than the other ...

If it's a matter of symmetry / balance can't you have a synthetic replacement for the missing one? I remember watching a programme where they were available for dogs. Neuticles apparently. https://www.neuticles.com/

I only experience testicular discomfort when cycling in normal clothing, and things are free to move around and occasionally get in the way. Since I discovered compression fit bibshorts I only have to scoop my tackle up and out of the way when squeezing into the bibs and it all stays there for the duration of the ride.

I have old fashioned round one. Rotate left (towards the existing ball), or right (away to the now none existent) ?

I chose not to have a replacement one due to the materials.

Mine are slightly oval. Oh, you mean the seatpost.

Bugger the materials, think of the weight saving...

what material did you want? Surely Stainless Steel would be a significant weight penalty ... ;)

Titanium ball? Could knock someone out with it.

    No, just some tiny clips.

Even if I had balls of lead, I'm struggling to imagine the mechanics of using them to strike a knockout blow...

    I'm sure it's possible with a little imagination :p

I should have saved more for bike parts to help me fit better rather than blow money on computer parts.

I would definitely tweet Lance Armstrong, Will, for all his ills I have a feeling he'd be happy to offer advice.

Let us know how you get on!

It may be that following surgery you are just more aware of that area and a little more sensitive.

If you pedal harder the burning in your lungs and thighs will mask the sensation in your groin ;)

For what it's worth I only have one too (for a different reason to you) but don't find I have any problems in that area when cycling so I suspect your issues are caused by some other reason.
