Seemingly trivial things that intrigue you

So donypubremembwr that part of the thread where we said explaining things to a layperson was harder than you might think? I have 30 year ago chemistry. And I studies these things for chemistry.

This is the end of my knowledge now too really but isn't the idea that you have to "imagine" that the "particles are everywhere" so that the maths works? Again, it's a model that has been misrepresented in pop-sci because it's weird and therefore wonderful...

Who decided that Heathrow Terminal 5 should feel about half as big as it needs to be for the number of people that fly through it.

The colour of my local river this morning, it is an orangey brown colour which used to be quite common due to the iron works further up the valley. I assume it is iron again but I’m surprised by the timing with there having been no rain for a week and the river level being significantly lower than last week.

You can go to places like Beijing terminal 3 for the opposite feeling.

Browsing second hand cars and there are an awful lot of Land Rovers and Jaguars going for less or similar than the same mileage and age VW golfs.
What’s going on? I know Land Rovers are a thief’s dream so maybe that’s it. But still.
Were they aggressively sold on finance and now a flurry of desperate sellers have it the market?
These premium hatchbacks really seem to hold their value by comparison.

Economy? Reliability? Supply & demand? Lots of reasons. Buying a car based on the badge is just silly.
Yes, I believe a Golf is a better car than a LR or most Jaguars, depending on requirements (farmers, limousines etc).
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Jaguar Land Rover has had some fairly well known security problems, especially with the keyless versions. Add to that some models like Range Rovers are popular with thieves has meant that insurance premiums have gone through the roof and lots of owners probably don't feel too comfortable about the risk. Read an article the other day about someone who had his top spec Range Rover nicked and was quoted £26k to insure the replacement.

Signs that policies to get people using smaller, less polluting vehicles are working (or, in other words, the ‘war on motorists’ is slowly being won).

Bloody woke lefties! C'mon, us gammons need to all buy Jaguars and Range Rovers.
Oh hang on a minute. Who's this that owns such a sterling brand?

I guess cozzy lives means running costs affect prices more, though I’m not sure I’d buy a car that’s more expensive to insure than buy

Why is it those who are the most screwed up post messages on social media the power of thinking positively?

Why is that the men in films or TV series set in medieval times such as The Vikings are always huge when in reality the average height was around 5’ 8”?

Yeah, and dinosaurs are always proportionately massive on the electronic illuminated device when in reality they were like well small?

If they are an example of the power of positivity then I'll go without. It's clearly not working.

I guess so, (in my mind) it also struggles from opening when I was a teenager and therefore it obviously "only just happened" and feels like it's clearly not at all future proof. When in reality it opened...quite a wile ago now.
Maybe that it's that I'm tending to travel at a peak time. It's annoying that they've not got the new scanners which mean you don't have to faff around with liquids though.

The little widget thing in the bottom of my screen on Windows. It usually displays the weather and pretty much every day it flashes something up about 'near record temperature' or even 'record temperature' (I saw one this week for near record low). Where does it get that data from as it is plainly not relating to reality in any way. As an example, in the summer it would be showing the temperature for my location in the low 20s (probably about right) but then I'd get a thing flash up to say near record temperature. I know I'm in Wales but it does quite often get wqarmer than that here.

If it's exaggerating it must get the information from the Express.
It is them with the most dramatic weather headlines isn't it?

Which is more effective, a pyschic love spell or a voodoo love spell?

You could click the link for each and let us know, unless of course you become so loved up you've no time for bike forums. Been using your tip on flagging multiple spam posts, thank you

Its quite satisfying being 5th flagger. Who knew..

Got to be careful though, as I did that and found I was deflagging some of the posts that I'd previously flagged an the forum and had to reflag them...
Hopefully forum admin will sort this so we don't have to.

Perhaps you should try both and then report back here with your findings.

Yes, I noticed that, it still shows them as new although you've flagged them. You also don't get the satisfaction of seeing it disappear if you're the 5th flagger that way.

He certainly is hardworking, earning 814 flags for spam in about 9 hours

This is a different sort of flag shagging from one that usually get mentioned on here 😊
Yep, more satisfying when you make it disappear but there's so much of this shyte it'll wear people down. Hopefully admin will close it down soon.

I am slightly concerned by the supposedly unstoppable nature of the love spells - I'm not as young and energetic as a used to be 😄
