But it's strange, apart from winning Paris-Roubaix, the Olympics, Gent-Wevelgem, E3 Harelbeke, GP de Montréal, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Paris–Tours, Tirreno-Adriatico, the Tour of Belgium, the Tour of Yorkshire, two Tour de France stages, the Vuelta points jersey and five Flandrien awards, he has very little to show for his abilities.
I get your point and at no point did I say that he is a bad rider but he has missed countless opportunities to be on the top step of the podium.
Basically, he doesn't have a special move like the really prolific winners (of which there have only really been three in the 21st century). He can't sprint like Sagan and Boonen and he can't time time trial like Cancellara
Mark Cavendish called. He'd like a word, round the back of the shed please.
As I suspect would Froome and Valverde, but I suspect it was more a reference to the classics than racing in general.
Remco Evenepoel played for Belgium at u16. Youth teams at Anderlecht ad PSV Eindhoven. First name on the team sheet imo.
Fairly sure one of the Spanish lot has some football pedigree as well, but can't remember who.
“Road racing was over and the UCI had banned my riding positions on the track, so it was like ‘Jings, crivvens, help ma Boab, what do I do now? I know, I’ll go away and be depressed for 10 years’.”

LL Sanchez, as I mentioned. His brother played for Real Madrid.
Van Avermaet used to be a goalkeeper (for the youth team at a Belgian top division club) and the goalkeeper is literally the first name on the team sheet
Eusebio Unzue, boss of Movistar, can be the manager - his brother was assistant manager at Barcelona.
Didn't Pereiro try to make it as a pro footballer after ending his cycling career? Think he got a contract / trial at least at a lower tier Spanish club.

You wouldn't have thought he would have had much time to practise much during his cycling days.
Just shows that kickball is just about the fitness and doesn't need any skilz
Some domestiques come over as a bit thick. Just big men with the ability to withstand pain over a distance and capable of nothing else bar being part of a train.
...and some others (Wilfred Nelissen).

You make it sound like streetfighter. Finish him
Please. Mortal Kombat, not Streetfighter. For shame.
Fat chopper. Some racing. Some testing. Some crashing.

Wonderfully attacking and you want him in the race.
He’s not the first post race interview you head for though.
