  • Yeah, if it's comfy, that's fine. I don't know about that colour mind. I won't get run over I guess.

    Those spacers need to go

What do you want to get out of the bike? What sort of rides are you doing (av speed, climbing, distance etc)? What sort of roads will you be on?

This is the right question and, honestly, I'm tinkering with the Propel. Most of my rides will be sportive, audax, abroad, climbing etc.

As much as I like the look and specs of the Propel Disc, including talk it can take at least some 28mm tyre models, there does seem to be some talk in reviews that the Propel Disc does sacrifice some comfort for speed... Which might not be so good for longer rides.

Why even look at buying a propel if you aren't willing to sacrifice some comfort for some speed? Surely that's the point?

If you want comfort get a defy.

If you want something that looks awesome and goes like stink, get a propel.

    +1

Its a great bike. I have a tcr advanced 1 disc and am very happy with it.
  • Had a look. If I had to buy a propel the green disc 2 is best value.

At the moment the irn bru is winning. The best paint job is the tcr advanced disc 1 but that has contend brakes.

  • Doesn't that have non carbon wheels though (Green Propel)
  • Deng-Fu of your choice and get pinno to colour it in for you.

True. That does rather count against it on value.

You can always upgrade... I changed the wheels on my tcr for prime rp-38s and its transformed the bike!

So have you had a look at them now?
  • Yes. The Propels are nice but, ultimately, I intend on taking this to sportives, audaxes, the Alps etc.

    So I think it's TCR.......

I agree, the point of the Propel is for reduced aero drag and more speed, but as you get older and get niggling body pains a bike like this is not going to do you much favours over say a 6+ hour sportive. I was suggesting that this was something BTR should think about due to intended use.

Given the 610mm of frame stack of my 58cm Cube before the 35mm of spacers under the stem, I very much doubt that a Propel would be a wise investment for my weak (but nowhere near as it used to be) lower back. ;)

So it’s the irn bru? Did you see all the models you’re interested in? If you’re near Nottinghamshire and would fit on a M/L then you’re welcome to come and try my 2018 adv pro 1 :)

Almost certainly. It's easily the best value one. I was drawn to the deeper wheels on the 2019 models but, up close, there's nothing really in it.

The TCR Advanced (non pro) is easily the pick of the colours mind....

I thought the irn bru one was a spectacular colour in real life. The online photos don’t do it justice imo. Kinda gutted I didn’t go for the disc model myself
  • I've not seen the blue in real life but, of the ones that were in the Giant store, the non Pro was nicest.

The photos of the blue one are immense and, pretty much, it's no different to the 2019 model.

So, there's nothing to be gained from spending almost 1k more. Irn Blue it is.

Good choice mate. I think the weight difference is about 700/800g.

I’m considering adding a few bits to mine this year.
