caad 10 vs kinesis aithein

i have a caad 10 which is about 5 yrs old and was considering either upgrading a few parts or buying a new kinesis aithein evo frame and fork and building a new bike.

i believe the caad 10 is a very good aluminium frame anyway, so would you consider the kenesis to be "better" or an upgrade. i had planned to use the kinesis as a racebike/ everyday bike, rather than a carbon bike.

advice?

No, it’s got the even shyittier Bowman typeface all over it instead (and seriously fugly wheels).

nah - bowman typeface is much nicer. kinesis is like a child's design from the 80s.
wheels are proper. i'm afraid to say you are wrong.

MF - There's no such thing as wrong in situations like that - only good tase and bad taste and we all believe that we are on the right side of the fence and that the other side is on the wrong side - in this case, I'm right but you just don't believe me!!!

stick with the caad 10 and tart it up a bit? they are great frames.

the bowmans do look ok, but they are a bit marmite. you also( dependant on wheelset used), might have clearance issues on certain (continental) tyres. the 25mm gp4000s cause frame/stay rub with certain wheel combo's (the broader the wheel the worse it gets). 25mm tyres from other manufacturers should be ok.
  • I enjoyed my Caad10 and had no reason to change it until it suffered catastrophic frame damage.

I replaced it with a Kinesis 4 Seasons.

I like the bottom bracket, external cable guides and ability to fit (real) mudguards.

So far I am enjoying the "K", it feels more robust, not much heavier than the Caad10 and rides better than expectations.
An unfortunate circumstance has turned out fairly well!

"heavier" "better than expectations" "fairly well" are hardly strong selling points.

If you selectively quote you may frame the response to suit your agenda.

After frame damage that finished my Caad10, I was happy to replace it with something slightly more robust. A slight increase in weight to accompany that robustness is expected?
My initial realistic expectations for the Kinesis were not realised, it rides well and isn't any slower than my old Caad on the road.
As an all round package, considering you don't see one on every group ride, I am only backing up the initial posters suggestion to consider a Kinesis as an alternative, based on real world, non forum warrior experience! :)

As someone who has only just finished a Kinesis 4S build for winter use, I'll go further and say it's a really good bike. I got it roadworthy on Saturday and have only managed a quick 25 miles on it thus far but I've got to say that I'm impressed. Feels quick and comfortable enough for me and, even a this early stage, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to enjoy it. I haven't made any conscious effort to keep the weight down but, even so, it's coming in at under 9Kg. I'm currently waiting for a pair of Kinesis Fend Offs to arrive to complete the job.

The Aithein is closest to the CAAD from the Kinesis range.......
FFS! Harden up and grow a pair :D
  • thanks for the replies. it does sound like the caad 10 might get the nod if its a good base. i've already got the bb30 hoofed out and an external shimano fitted. so a fresh respray (i dont like the black white green look) and some new parts could be the answer.

  • I think this is a nicer colour for a respray , I’ll probably get my caad12 done like this.

My father painted the exterior timber on our house that colour in the early 70's. Looked crap then and looks crap on the trek. Although it is just lipstick on pig.
